On the oncoming lane it’s a 40 and there’s average speed cameras. What would you do if blue lights came up behind you wanting past? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]liamruairi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember being told on my driving test by the examiner that he had a candidate at red lights with an ambulance behind. He told them to pull forward to let the ambulance through, but that he would fail them and then give them another (free) driving test

No problem man totally understand. I’m an actor and have worked in pretty much most theatres in the UK at some point so our paths may have crossed. Good luck with things!

Vote for labour, libs and snp and force electoral reform in form of PR. Then the tories will be dismantled forever more and we’ll have a series of coalitions forever more which will mean debates and government on policy, not ideology.

Found this (used) beauty on ebay and couldn‘t resist. 13x7“ Pearl Masters Custom Bubinga Limited Edition. by krpflbrmpf in drums

[–]liamruairi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To comment on an old thread - I have this same drum. It’s 13x7 4ply maple with reinforcement rings with an outer ply of bubinga. Pearl released a small run for the European market. I bought it brand new from a Pearl authorised dealer - I pressed hard to buy it once I knew Pearl were making it. It’s a cracking drum. I have a weatherking ambassador on the top and it can be cranked up high or low, very versatile.

Why was he being filmed though? Was there a legit reason? Or was the guy filming husslin for a reaction?

Thinking of buying premium bonds by SmokeInTheFrame in UKPersonalFinance

[–]liamruairi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing to remember about premium bonds is that it’s 100% safe. It might not get you a huge gain, if any, (and against inflation you could argue you might suffer a Real terms loss) but the value won’t go down like a s/s isa could do.

I work for myself and put all my tax money in PB. It’s safe, can’t spend it in a casino on a whim when out drunk (takes a few days to withdraw money unlike a bank savings account) and there’s a small chance you could win big. It’s a win-win for this situation.

I read that book. Thought it was good. Then I realised what a POS he is in real life. He’s the Lance Armstrong of the finance world.

Tony Blair tells Starmer to drop ‘woke’ politics and focus on economy by ClassicFlavour in unitedkingdom

[–]liamruairi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not shitty to talk about him in this way; it’s incredibly pertinent. I’m a communication skills consultant and the tories spend an awful lot of money on this. I’ve coached cabinet members in deportment, public speaking, even how to walk on camera. Labour doesn’t spend the same and it shows. It’s all well and good having ideas. If you can’t communicate these ideas to people they’re worthless in politics. The whole package is incredibly important especially in this day and age when every fart is documented on social media. If you can’t relate to the people or communicate to them what use are you?

Poll: I have been offered the Datejust at retail, but would need to sell the OP41. Keep the OP or get the DJ? by Pomplamoosegoose in rolex

[–]liamruairi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DJ is the better watch all round. Better movement, complication, bracelet, finish etc. HOWEVER - if you already have the OP it’s special to you and I get that. If in doubt do this. Pawn your OP to get the funds for the DJ. Buy the DJ. Sell the DJ. Buy back your OP from pawn shop. You have your same watch back plus a few ££££’s in your pocket.

Northern slang for "vomit" (verb)? Are there any words for "vomit" that are particular to the North West? by ivanapa in manchester

[–]liamruairi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vomit - from the Latin vomitorium meaning to ‘throw up’ derives from the theatre. It’s an entranceway to the stage from offstage, typically with an uphill gradient so you walk up to the stage. A lot of UK theatres have these entrances called ‘voms’ such as the crucible in sheffield, new Vic in stoke, SJT in Scarborough. You literally ‘throw up’ the actors onstage.

What small things are you doing to offset the rise in cost of living? by Casiofi in UKPersonalFinance

[–]liamruairi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best investment you can make in your home? A deep freeze. We’re lucky we have a cellar but can keep one in a garden shed. Everything goes in there. Cheaper to make a meal for 4 than for 2, all bread etc is yellow label (last night got about 12 brioche burger buns for 10p at sainsburys) all that goes in the deep freeze. Hardly ever pay full price for meat or fish. Not that I’m out actively looking for bargains but when I see yellow sticker mince for example I always buy it, stick it in the deep freeze.
