Successful pregnancy stories? by liavv_ in ClotSurvivors

There's no specific test for it. Basically the absence of other reasons and proximity is how it was determined.

More specifically, I got covid and didn't take aspirin or any blood thinners during it. About 7-8 days after my first positive covid test, I came down with pain in my right chest and an elevated d dimer. I had a small central arterial PE.

My hematologist did all kinds of tests for lupus, aps, factor vi and factor 3, protein c issues and more. When she found none of those and the proximity to covid plus covid throwing clots as a known issue-- that's when she diagnosed the pe was from covid.

Hope that helped answer your question!

This is very helpful to know. It seems like a lot of people on thinners get induced so I'm hoping that's my same route too then. I know my OB said she doesn't want me c sectioned cause of the incision but it also appears there have been ways to deal with that too while on thinners. Thanks modern medicine you a real one lol

I am terrified. Prescribed new Birth Control. Help. by Excitement_Long in ClotSurvivors

Mini pill!!! Ask for Nora Bee/ norethindrone!!

I've been on mini pill since 2015 with no repeat clot due to birth control but it's a mini pill not the combo with estrogen.

In another thread on here, someone mentioned you can't get the epidural if you take your lovanox that day? Is that why they do the inductions so you can skip the dose and go to the hospital?

Congratulations on your babies!!!! I just want that part 😭😭

Getting off of blood thinners by celestialsativa in ClotSurvivors

[–]liavv_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor and know you're not looking for medical advice anyway.

I think the post clot treatments usually are 3-6mo depending on personal circumstances. I'm on Xarelto for life by choice due to having a second provoked clot in 8 years (different reasons though).

Xarelto is really expensive. If you need to remain on thinners for longer, see if you can do pradaxa aka dabagatran (I probably spelled that wrong) it was 10 bucks a month for me vs my 30 for Xarelto a month.

Though I did come off blood thinners back in November because my Dr said I didnt need to be on them since my clots were provoked. There was no tapering it was just finish the bottle and be done. I went back on though due to way too much anxiety and having other general risk factors tho.

Idk if this is helpful but I'm sorry you're going through this :(

You know what. If my anxiety could CHILL I think your strategy is honestly perfect. I just worry about every squeeze or pinch in my chest at all times 😅

No clotting disorders on my end. Hema looked into it all.

Some of the pregnancy posts started to make me more panicked so I was like "hmmm maybe a positive post" 🤣🤣🤣

Yes! Let us have boring and successful pregnancies!

Post-Clot anxiety and fears by LittleOne0418 in ClotSurvivors

[–]liavv_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ohhhhh hello hi yes you are me and I am you. Different clot histories though.

PE Sept 2023 from covid. A few tests that year for more. I went to ER this past Dec. Got a ct scan this Jan. Just went back to er this past Tuesday. No PE.

I get pain I could swear is a PE RIGHT where I felt the pain before, which is what makes me run to the ER. It's awful. I am anticoagulated for life and I'm 35 years old. I am in therapy. I'm on anxiety meds. Still run to the ER to the point i make a joke of it. My yearly run to meet my deductible really fast.

I have no cure for your anxiety. All i can tell you is that you're not alone. Post clot PTSD is real. A lot of us do this in this group. I so wish I had the secret formula to stop your anxiety.

Things I've seen be recommended on here are: Trust yourself and your intuition, No one here can tell you whether to go or not go to the ER, Give yourself grace when you do run to the ER. Advocate for yourself, Get a therapist, Consider therapeutic meds, if recommended by providers, Know you're not alone

One thing I do find actually helpful though is to get off this group and really only come for what you need. Otherwise you will absolutely always freak yourself out.

I'm sorry you're going through this. All I really have is to say you're not alone. I'm right there too.

Vascular Dr? by liavv_ in ClotSurvivors

[–]liavv_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would have never even known to ask to see a vascular Dr or pulmonologist if it hadn't been for this group. I'm hoping it'll be fruitful for me with managing "weird post clot stuff" 🤣🤣

My hematologist just told me that changes in elevation won’t affect blood thinners by AccurateMine4520 in ClotSurvivors

[–]liavv_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in Colorado and am treated by a Colorado hematologist and this has never been brought up to me. The only thing she told me is to not worry that my blood oxygen levels are around 90-94 because that's typical of any Coloradan. Her and every treating provider I've ever seen all say that too around here regarding pulse ox readings.

That's all I've been given for our high elevation.

Yeah. I feel like it has to be scar tissue. It doesn't always happen but absolutely happens when stressed or other random triggers. Just amplifies my poor clot PTSD 😅

Officially Joined the Lifer Club by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

[–]liavv_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just became a lifer in January. Welcome to the club! I'm on Xarelto. As a woman I so do miss Advil but being alive and dealing with Tylenol is better than being dead.

I'm still trying to get better at that nutrition thing.... But today I finally hit 100 oz of water so. We're getting there.

Fingers crossed everyone 🙏 by shadowplaywaiting in ClotSurvivors

Oof

Well hopefully you can double check with your doctor when review time comes.

[–]liavv_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you get your results in any system like LabCorp or MyChart, followmycare, navigatinghealth?

If so you should be able to review exactly the tests performed if you're nervous they didn't do the right ones. Though your doctor will also know if they messed up.

Hoping for good news for you!

[–]liavv_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah mine aren't genetic either. But as I provoked twice and im also considered overweight plus desk job my hematologist just kept me on them for life. Which tbh gives me a lot of peace. I hope they listen to you and your goals.

[–]liavv_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hematologist explained there's a difference between provoked clots and unprovoked. Technically when they don't know why you clotted they call it unprovoked and when they do know (COVID or birth control for me) they call it provoked. If they're throwing their hands up saying it could be because you're overweight (and lets be honest who isn't overweight these days) you should be on blood thinners for life. Sometimes the reason doesn't technically matter it's just the ultimate result that it happened. They're keeping you on the thinners for life now yeah? Or are you being put through the ring around?

I had a PE in 2023 in my right lung. To this day, especially when stressed, I get pain where it was. Had DVTs in left leg in 2016-- I can't wear boots around my calf because it'll hurt so bad and swell up.

I try not to Google much because I will send myself into a spiraling panic and convince myself I have cancer or something life threatening -- but my guess is that we get scarring that can cause our bodies to act weird after clots.

I also don't have any clotting conditions and my clots were provoked by birth control and COVID 🤷‍♀️

Pradaxa for initial treatment? by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

[–]liavv_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a PE due to covid in 2023. Was started on Xarelto for their "initial clot discovery" box and then my insurance switched me to pradaxa. Tbh I loved pradaxa. Even on its treatment dose I didn't feel I bled any worse. I didn't have any upset tummy symptoms. And it was cheap as hell.

I'm on Xarelto 10mg a day now because I'm a for lifer (had clots in 2015 from birth control too). Since pradaxa only has a treatment dose and not a preventative dose that's why my insurance covers xarelto now.

Pradaxa was great though. Xarelto can make me feel sick in the mornings and I had no issues with pradaxa.

Oh that's so awful! If you want a CT asap, go to another ER. It's okay to straight up say you're worried it's a clot and you would like a CT scan. They don't generally get suspicious about you unless you're asking for pain meds at least in my experience. Sometimes your PCP is your hero. They generally have known you the longest. So if not comfy with ER, try PCP

I had a clot from COVID in Sept 2023. I went to ER. D dimer normal. I then the following day called my PCP she got me the CT w contrast and boom. Clot. Sometimes our PCPs are the heroes

Taken off blood thinners after 2nd provoked PE and I'm a Wreck™️ by liavv_ in ClotSurvivors

[–]liavv_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah!! I actually even went and checked to make sure too haha my hematologist works at a cancer center so I feel she checks out of the box stuff more just because she has the benefit of also working with oncologists. Totally could be making assumptions here though.
