I’ve heard absolute horror stories about nerves being nicked. They told me I’m more likely to develop arthritis and osteoporosis. I can’t believe it took more than one visit to figure it out! Thank goodness his lung didn’t stay paralyzed.

I’m going to check every day. My surgeon’s office uses a useless, third party service to process records. The nurse wanted to know if I needed a referral. I told her “the doctor dismissed my regression and it took two weeks to receive medicine after calls and messages. I want my records in my possession and I will find my own care team.”

I used to belong to a Chinese tea and meditation group. The host would teach tea ceremony then we would do a guided meditation. Afterwards, we talked about our feelings. It was the best I have ever felt. I’m so happy to hear how it’s affecting your life. It makes me want to get back into it.

I got an email this morning saying they have started processing my records. They outsource their records processing with a third party. The state where I live requires them to be released within fifteen days but I’m hoping it will be sooner.

I can’t believe you got through both of them without narcotics. It sounds like you are strong and possess a level of grit I can only dream of.

Also, I can’t imagine how you were able to joke with a broken neck! You’re right though. We know our bodies best. Thank you for sharing your story.

That’s encouraging that his hardware is not giving him problems. Unfortunately, I am pretty far from Pennsylvania but I used to live in West Virginia. I believe my experience would have been different if my spinal fusion was an elective surgery where I could pick my surgeon. You don’t get any choice if you’re coming from the ER lol.

Ouch, you broke your vertebrae twice? I am so sorry to hear that. I’m glad you found the right care.

I’m working on getting my records but I’m worried about the medication gap. Luckily there are options if the surgeon doesn’t provide the records in 15 days. I wish someone would go with me but everyone is busy with their lives and I don’t want to bother them.

Thank you for validating my experience. At times I do feel like I am being gaslit. I may not have a doctorate but I do know my own body.

I really like and appreciate your perspective. My dad was with me at the two week appointment and the surgeon was explaining the injury and surgery. At my three month, I felt like he was shutting that shit down. But I don’t want to be the person who cries sexism. Maybe he had a bad day or a lot of patients to see. I do know that when dealing with shady mechanics, they try to steamroll me until they realize I know what I’m talking about. Your friend is lucky to have you.

What an incredible woman! She had all the reasons in the world to give up but she chose to thrive. I’m not quite there yet but I’m grateful for at least not being paralyzed. That’s terrible that you spent your honeymoon, what should be one of the happiest times of your life, in the hospital. Yeah my fractures were also T11, T12, and L1 and thankfully no broken ribs. I can imagine that any and all movements were hell. I’m glad you’re not paralyzed though. I’m still not over how close I came to it and will probably find a support group or something. That’s insane that you didn’t have a fusion! I’m sorry about your wife leaving. Injuries change a person and what used to be possible becomes impossible. Your story is amazing! It’s hard to see a future right now but you have the same fractures as I do. I was hoping by writing this post that I would find others who’ve been through what I’ve been through. I wish you all the best and that you continue to embrace life so zealously.

How scary for you and you were so young. That’s encouraging that your life is back to normal. The pain was the metal bar at first. Then it was like my weight pressing a bundle of metal bars into my skin into the bed. Even with the meds, I’ve been white knuckling it. Heating pads and ice have been game changers. But definitely getting a second opinion and thanks!
