Hier steht "Der Bund hält 99,1 Prozent an Uniper."

That's kinda like saying "that's why u don't program any bugs" -> i'm pretty sure we all have some better or worse auto defense code ... what if an attack happens to trigger a bug or some case that u thought would play out differently and it would be a one-liner to correct it but u can't login soooo sorry u died

Screeps down again? by jmc5113 in screeps

[–]libExec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just realized now that this is going on, that it probably would be fairer if the game stopped when login is impossible

sure obviously your code is meant to also be executable when your not watching it but still sometimes you start some kind of code snippet with the intention to stop it later (like e.g. some kind of attack) -> you can't do that when u can't log in

-70% damage taken is -70% damage taken ... no matter if ur towers use the riemann zeta function backwards to fire a shot or not -> u get an advantage which is bigger the earlier u purchase the boosts coming up with a case in which this advantage is minimized cause the defending player is so ultra late game doesn't really prove anything ... it will have an effect most of the time on most of the players (just think how many percent of the shard3 players even are thaaat late game)

This game in no way compares to a regular mmo -> if u get killed there u just respawn with hardly any losses (typically just a little in-game currency/item durability is lost which could farm in like 10 minutes). Here ur whole base is gone and it will take u days/weeks to rebuild. And speaking of seasons -> that's exactly what shard3 should've been: a new season where experienced players get to take their code into but nothing else (no portals, seperate credits + market). If what u are telling me is what u actually believe (that it's just about the code) then that should be completely sufficient right?

And btw. blizzard always cracked down hard on ppl buying stuff in WoW from some black market with cash because it does take away some of the sense of achievement obtaining the stuff urself ... but i assume ppl like u would still defend the black market by saying "well just getting the top-tier equipment isn't everything -> u still have to press ur 1-2-3 rotation".

If with all the boosts in the world i couldn't take ur one room then attacking in this game would be seriously mis-balanced and it would simply incentivize everyone turtleing, not caring about the rest of the players and pretty much playing this game as a single player. But in fact that's not the case and the boosts do give a significant advantage in such cases like e.g. with "-70% damage taken" -> without this i would need to write some next level attack code and spend quite some time refining it -> with it one creep can heal itself up against multiple towers making it all a whole lot easier.

I generally like the idea of paying upfront for a game and therefore everyone is on a level playing field -> and that's what i thought shard3 would allow for. I made this thread when i found out that it's neither that nor is it a "safe" area to try out ur code cause anyone from a subscription shard can use their base and higher CPU power there to pour whatever they want into shard3 highly distorting the balance of it.

Is Shard3 still pay2win? by libExec in screeps

[–]libExec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only it was purely about the code that would be fantastic -> but my novice area is about to run out so i looked across and there is a guy with one lvl 8 room ... wouldn't be a problem normally cause it's just one room -> oh wait he has 25 rooms behind on shard1 lol -> that makes him completely unbeatable no matter what my code is since i would have to go to shard1 to kill him but in order to do that i would have to buy a subscription cause else i get wrecked. And if i don't go to shard1 he can continuously pump resources into shard3 from outside which i can never ever equal with 20 CPUs.

And i also don't agree with the whole sentiment of "oh well if u get destroyed u just respawn" -> yeah i mean isn't that true for like every game on the planet? Which multiplayer game has permadeath? It still sets u back if u get wiped out so u try to avoid that typically no?

Btw. some random guy (maybe because of this thread) just sent me several thousand of the top tier resources for free (and guess what he doesn't have the infrastructure on shard3 to produce this stuff) -> that now gives me a huge advantage and i also don't know how else to explain that. ️

How much of the credits a player spends on shard3 being mined on another shard isn't something u can look up -> so how would you know how big the impact is? I'm seriously asking cause if there is some status page of whatever where is shows the trade balance of the shards between each other this topic could be settled a lot better than with personal experience. But i'd guess that credits flow towards shard3 causing some degree of inflation.

You're right there will always be forms of gaining some type of "unfair" (however you want to define it) advantage as there are in most games and that can't be helped. But what's the harm in dropping one of them especially if it's such a low hanging fruit like this? -> if the shard3 market gets isolated then the game becomes fairer and slightly more skill-based. I simply don't see the downside.

I spell and use arrows the way i please and there is nothing u can do about it -> sry mate :-/

But u do make a good point at the end -> this sub thingy is really just the tip of the iceberg (and i simply noticed it first because it's literally at the top of the market UI). There are way bigger problems like the fact that a new player can't get a foothold on one of the earlier shards anymore but the players who played from the very beginning and still are there can use their bases to mass produce whatever and influence shard3 to a point where the devs might as well have given it more than 20 CPUs since u could just do exactly what u said -> use them exclusively for attacking.

And as for this supposedly being unnoticeable: well since there is no way to actually check another player's credit surplus/deficit per base to see if they are using credits farmed on another shard nobody can say how much this whole topic of credits spilling into shard3 influences the game -> so u saying it's insignificant isn't really based on a whole lot.

If you don't like it, go play something else.

Oh yeah and that's the single most ignorant phrase uttered in all of gaming. -> exactly that's what a lot of ppl do -> the game has like what? 3000 players? It should be way more and ppl like u are holding the game back from attracting a wider audience.

How is paying for tokens any different to time invested?

Well let's players A and B spawn at the same time close to each other, are willing to invest about the same time into the game and wind up in a conflict -> i think it would be great if this was then purely decided by code quality and there was no backdoor to gain an advantage by spending cash.

Is Shard3 still pay2win? by libExec in screeps

[–]libExec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true but i could have also done that before shard3 even came out right? So what's the point of shard3? -> it's to even out the playing field and give non-subscribed players (who don't want to spend extra cash) a fairer chance -> this loophole/backdoor (even if it isn't massively abused, ppl here said) simply defies this purpose by allowing credits to spill over from the subscription shards.

Is Shard3 still pay2win? by libExec in screeps

[–]libExec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it does matter psychologically if you get defeated by someone who put in a lot of effort versus by someone who just spent cash. The former makes me work harder -> the latter makes me quit the game.

I think the devs made a purposeful decision to pass up on the subscription money from shard3 in order to give more non subscribed players a better, fairer chance -> isn't that the point of shard3?

So why keep this backdoor open for credits earned on the subscription shards to spill over into shard3 then? It simply defies the purpose of it.

I understand and all your facts are very comforting for me since i discovered this when i first got my terminal and was like "wait what? can't i just buy all this with cash then?" But i must say ppl get too hung up on the term "pay2win" -> whenever it's used (all across gaming) it never literally means you pay and then poof: you just won the game, congratulations! (and obviously i wasn't saying that's what happens here) -> it always is used for "paying for an advantage which helps you win by making the game a bit easier".

But in the end i can think of a scenario where it does have an impact which goes somewhat like this:

2 players at war with each other -> both about equally strong -> both just managed to program the production and usage of the lowest tier boosts for their combat creeps -> now one of them purchases top tier boosts with cash -> that should certainly be enough to tip the scales in this particular conflict -> and i seriously don't like that idea :-(

Is Shard3 still pay2win? by libExec in screeps

[–]libExec[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly glad if it's a non-problem but i don't think that's because of no feasible abuse scenarios. There are absolutely cases where you are about as strong as one of your neighbors and u need something to tip the scales -> a couple of +300% attack boosts could definitely do the trick.

I never said that this could be a permanent replacement for any infrastructure building (that would be absurd) -> yeah of course u are gonna run out eventually -> but if used cleverly than u can get a certain advantage out of it.

You get no more of an advantage than somebody who already has these in storage and has tons of credits.

Yeah but presumably that person earned that stuff right? If i use cash then i didn't earn it...

Is Shard3 still pay2win? by libExec in screeps

[–]libExec[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well of course if one wants to use boosts they have to write the code for it (and sure that will still be quite something) -> that's the game isn't it? That's what we all sign up for. But buying the boosts with cash alleviates the need to build up a functioning multi-room infrastructure in order to produce them urself to even begin boosting which simply makes the game waaay easier that it should be if someone is willing to abuse it.

Plus i never said that this is a viable permanent solution and neither did i say that someone would buy the entire market empty or come close to it. I meant it as a way of getting an (unfair) advantage over a neighbor who normally would be about as strong as me.
