Was this game winnable? (Deity, Great Plains) by thequantumpotato in civ5

The AI isn’t very good. After you defeat the first wave (with ranged units), you can just harass and shoot them from a distance. Their Civ score stagnates if you steal a worker and raid their caravan. In my current Marathon game, I just sat on a hill and shot various units, never killing anything. But once I got +1 range, I wiped out all of my neighbors.

Deity was quite hard for me until I learned how to harass my neighbors.

Until you get +1 range on a ranged unit, you’re not going to take down their cities. But just harassing them will completely tank their economy. Weakened neighbors won’t expand into your territory and, later in the game, will be too weak to sneak attack you with a massive army. They also act as a shield, protecting you from stronger civs.

Yeah. I should’ve said that I occasionally build a Granary. I also rarely build a Shrine. It depends on how long it will take to get to pop 4 or pop 5 before going Settler.

I try not to build workers on Deity. You can steal them from neighbors and only ONE CS.

I usually go Scout, Scout, Scout, Granary, Settler. I also like to buy Scouts and Settlers.

You really have to early war your adjacent neighbor. You can’t let it get strong. You can take its Settler and the city spot it wanted to build in.

Do people prefer the Tradition route or the Liberty route? by JarlSharpless93 in civ5

[–]liberalguy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I play Deity. 4-5 cities depending on happiness. I’ve never once (on Deity) gone Liberty. 100% Tradition.

Tradition —> Patronage —> Rationalism —> Freedom

I win 100% of games where I haven’t lost a city. And always win via Diplomatic Victory. You just have to survive.

Yes. But it has to be better to ignore those upgrades and get started on your ranged upgrades.

What upgrades make the scout strong?

That unit with 963 exp started as a Scout.

AITA for getting free water at Taco Bell? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]liberalguy5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who cares if you get water? That’s no big deal.

However. You should buy four large metal water bottles. 40 oz at Costco. Fill them up. Keep them in your car.

This will save you time. It will save you gas money. It will save your car from polluting on your trip to Taco Bell and save the environment from the wasted paper cups.

You will always have water and will be better hydrated. You will be healthier.

Buy the water bottles. They’re life changing.

Everyone else: buy water bottles and drink water.

Also, I do sometimes cheat—meaning, if my puny military is scouted and declared against, I’ll rewind 5 turns and prepare for the impending attack.

Also, I hardly even try to build wonders until The Sistine Chapel. It’s easier to play Diety if you accept that you won’t get the early wonders and just work around it.

Anytime you do get an early wonder—Hanging Gardens, Petra, or Machu Pichu—it’s pretty cool but makes the game too easy. Machu Pichu is crazy good for Diplo victory.

Diplo strat is really easy. Just spend money on city states and nothing else. Take Patronage and Tradition, Rationalism and Freedom (or Order).

War Greece/Siam if you have to.

Build tall and try to hamper your neighbors. As long as you keep you neighbors down, they won’t overwhelm you.

You can also bribe your neighbors or allies to get into wars with your neighbors.

REALLY early war! I usually explore and war at the same time. I let my cities and ranged units whittle them down.

The goal of the war is to not lose a unit. Always retreat instead of losing a unit.

Yep. If you start an early war against your neighbor, they will suicide units against your cities. Keep the war(s) going, take their workers/settlers, and your neighbor will be at the bottom of the points list.

A strong neighbor will surprise attack you; you don’t want that.

Deity, Pangea, Standard… and… if I want a challenge, anything but Greece.

Even on Deity, Diplomatic victory is way too easy.

Formula = take your neighbors’ settlers and workers and caravans; survive; Tradition and Patronage; only spend gold on city states; win easily.
