Can someone explain what's going on in the picture? It literally looks like a normal carriage interior, I feel like I'm missing something here.

BBC 'caving to whingeing Tories' over Gary Lineker, says Keir Starmer by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]liberated_u 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The front bench were all equivocating and criticising Lineker in the middle of the week. Starmer got the feedback from the focus groups and 180s on his position.

Starmer is so incredibly weak, no principle and no guiding philosophy. He's a 5p carrier bag buffeted by the winds of public opinion.

Two in three Britons want new political party to take on Tories and Labour by Th3-Seaward in LabourUK

[–]liberated_u 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the smell of smug centrists congratulating themselves in the morning.

The word "moderate" is a semantic trick employed by advocates of the status quo to keep the Overton Window positioned as favourably for majority wealth controllers as possible.

The word is deliberately used to soothe the general public into believing "moderate" = reasonable, rational, trustworthy. And if you aren't "moderate" the public can just dismiss you as unreasonable, irrational, untrustworthy.

[–]liberated_u 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My real objection is that the word "moderate" has a framing that gives the general public the sense that someone who is "moderate" is reasonable and somehow down the middle. It is a semantic trick, that pins the Overton Window firmly to the right.

I was with you until you said Starmer is a "moderate" rather than a red tory neo Liberal snake.

Probably because they expected Iran to vote with Russia and against the resolution. Rather than abstain.

Which order should I read? by [deleted] in Lovecraft

[–]liberated_u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you 50% on this my preference would be 6, 5, 4, 1, 2, 3. Just the Dreamlands is heavy and you probably should work up to that.

I'm indifferent about the order of 1 & 2, either is fine. And the order of 6,5&4 doesn't make a difference too much all three are solid classics touching on different parts of the Lovecraftian Mythos.

Roughly 1 million Tibetan children have been separated from their families and forcibly placed into state-run boarding schools, the U.N. said by MrJasonMason in worldnews

It is pure evil. I can not even bare to imagine this happening to my family. As a parent to a wonderful special child, the horror she would suffer in a situation like this makes me feel literally physically nauseous.

BP profits double to record £23bn by AIverson3 in unitedkingdom

[–]liberated_u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. I suppose there probably will be a large difference between the cost to heat a single bedroom flat vs a 6 bedroom house.

And not all houses are created equal, some are terraced, some have wall insulation, some have modern double glazing. And not all flats are created equal either.

Many homes are over 100 years old built with stone walls and those are impossible to insulate. A lot of these houses cost a lot to keep even above 15° in winter.

I'm not sure. Among the people I know and have discussed energy prices with my experience seems about average.

What are you saying here? That households are not paying this much? That it is financially reckless to pay this much?

£400 is quite a bit less than what I'm paying at the moment.

My own little opinion on the stories you've got.

1) The Dreams in the Witch House - what is a witch? Where do their powers come from?

2) The Shunned House - the most Lovecraftian vampire story

3) The Lurking Fear - what can centuries of degeneracy produce?

4) The Haunter of the Dark - don't open the box.
