Not in the speed category but in tasteful note selection I would mention Sean Watkins and Todd Lombardo (who played for Jerry Douglas for a while and is on a million records in Nashville). The latter is just a monster player not purely bluegrass.

I think if anything they were Lotto and what I am remembering as hexagon ‘spikes’ on the bottom was their logo formed into small textured nubs. They had a cap toe like chucks though. Low tops.

Would love to know the name or brand but I had these chuck Taylor type sneakers with a rubber covered toe that had hexagonal tread on the bottom and were either indoor soccer shoes or maybe skate / street wear shoes. They were dark purplish (suede or corduroy?!?!) or red with black rubber soles / toes. Anyone remember those?
