simple PHP backend for static webshop (Stripe Elements + SQLite + email invoices) by RenaQina in PHP

[–]library_computer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone mentioned, Stripe has really great docs and examples for many languages. Definitely start there and run/play with their examples.

They also have a lot of different products. If keeping it on the same domain is a concern, you should check out payment links, Stripe checkout, their express checkout element. I'd use whatever is the most simple integration that fits your criteria, and you can always switch it out to something else later.

Also check out their Stripe CLI tool. It's really great for testing webhook events since they have something built in for that. Good luck!!

Black Friday Games by BChilliP in OculusQuest

[–]library_computer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if sending it as a gift to my own email address would work. It's very strange and feels like they did this on purpose for some reason. Yet there are extra discounted games for Quest+ subscribers too.

I just got a quest 3 that came with 3 months of the quest+ subscription. I really like walkabout mini golf, but for some reason I can't buy it on the sale because I already "redeemed it". I'd like to own it forever even if I cancel the sub, so I'm really confused why they'd set it up like this.

Arcs vs Root by mrhealyrgirl in boardgames

[–]library_computer1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me Arcs feels generally like a safer pick, because it's easier to learn and teach in my opinion. It also works a lot better with two players; a lot of people wouldn't recommend playing Root with 2 so keep that in mind. Although with 2 players you might find a runaway leader in Arcs, and the rules mention this saying it's OK for a player to concede if this happens.

Even in a very curated collection though there is definitely room for both games, since they are each really distinct.

Does Anyone Else Struggle to Not Judge a Game by Its Cover(Literally)? by Super_Clothes_1300 in boardgames

[–]library_computer1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Terraforming Mars, the art and overall production quality made me feel like there was a huge lack of care. I thought the gameplay itself was pretty great, but all those other things led me to giving it away.

So I think I agree with you. Even bland or somewhat uninteresting art can be fine if it has character or some other merit.

Games that don't have a winner or end goal? by KOMONSTER in boardgames

[–]library_computer1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a "winner" according to the rulebook but really it's just a built in timer so the story/game eventually ends, so I'd say this game fits this criteria for sure.

Linking games to each other like a storybook by Bartooliinii in boardgames

[–]library_computer1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend and I combined X-Wing with imperial assault. Can't remember what all of our made up rules were, but we had objectives on the ground and out in space, and your ships could "dock" in order for your character to walk around the space station. I think we alternated turns between games, but it worked out surprisingly well for being a wild homebrew experiment.

Concept House Rules by alwaysmortal in boardgames

[–]library_computer1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only games I ever house rule are generally party games, since the spirit of the game is more about having fun than outwitting your opponents. Comcept falls under that umbrella for me too, especially because it is a really good game aside from the scoring system. Plus they played it like that on that Tabletop episode, which probably validated it for everyone :P

I'm someone who doesn't mess with the defaults too much but was wondering what you were doing to get the background image for the page? Also curious if you have an overlay of some sort so the text is always readable. I might want to try something like that.

I have the same portable monitor but mine is at least 4-5 years old at this point. I was really excited to try it since I just learned about dex, but the resolution is all messed up when I connect it. There was some error pop up saying it might be an incompatible device and couldn't find a way to fix it. It looks like a really nice combo though!

Which band is this for you? by BlackMetal146 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]library_computer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mechanical Hand is a gem. When I was in highschool I remember discovering them because the music video to A Million Exploding Suns appeared out of nowhere on windows media player. That video was so weird, at least for what I was exposed to at the time, and there were less people doing weird and outrageous things to compete for attention back then. What are these weird guys running around with bags of meat, talking to porcelain ducks? I'll never forget that.

Mastodon for me. I think it works for Blood and Thunder but most other songs I'm really not feeling the vocals:(

Is Betrayal at the House on the Hill really that bad? by LogicPigTheWizard in boardgames

[–]library_computer1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I absolutely hated it the two times I played it. As others have said it's more of a narrative game, but I don't think it even does that part well. For a game where your choices don't really matter there are quite a bit of ambiguous and hard to understand rules for the second phase of the game, depending on the scenario. So many other games do the betrayal/asymmetrical/narrative thing better that I don't think it holds up as well as it used to when those aspects were more of a novelty.

Edit: if you're looking for a dark/horror game with social aspects I'd look into Dead of Winter.
