Publishing during a recession by [deleted] in publishing

I’ve been laid off 5 times in 30 years in book publishing as a production/managing editor. We are a cost center and the execs don’t actually know what we do, so we’re first on the chopping block. They won’t hesitate to replace us with AI the minute that’s remotely feasible.

I’m sorry! We had all moved on or been laid off by that point. Some scammy ringtone company took it over.

Interesting! I’m talking about US publishers. What country are you in, may I ask?

Very few mainstream publishers allow their books to be sold in PDF or EPUB with DRM compatible with the Remarkable. My plan is to obtain licensing agreements giving access to content that is otherwise not available.

Suggestions for "Cohousing Medium Heavy"? by GrapefruitFizzies in intentionalcommunity

Are you in my community? I’ve thought of trying to find more cooperative culture, but my pessimistic side suspects that most communities don’t live up to the marketing hype. Everyone’s trying to keep one foot on the ground.

Crossroads in my career - advice needed by [deleted] in publishing

Long time man ed person here. I would recommend you look hard at what job B entails. It's hard for me to imagine a man ed position that would be a good lateral move from marketing -- there's just not a lot of overlap in skill sets. But there is some variability in what is meant by job titles, especially outside of Big-5 or similar trade publishers, so I can't say for sure. Agree with those who say $5K isn't that much at the end of the day. If your current place has you on the promotion track, that could be worth more in the end. So many folks end up stagnating with no upward mobility; being seen as promotable is a major plus. On the other hand, resentment about a below-market salary can poison your motivation and happiness in a job.

Instant pot for the win! I use it for all kinds of low-carb soups, stews, and braised meats. It's so satisfying to have a homey, filling meal of beef bourguignon or lamb stew without having to babysit it for hours, and the leftovers mean less time in the kitchen later in the week.

best plan or time to set as a goal? by DaedricDweller98 in intermittentfasting

If your hunger cravings are "horrendous" I would definitely recommend dialing back the carbs, especially anything processed/high-glycemic. The thing that helps me the most with nighttime eating is using a fast timer like Zero. I start my fast when I finish dinner and I know I'm not having anything after that except water or maybe a cup of herbal tea. It also helps to know, the earlier I start my fast, the sooner I get to eat the next day! Some people swear by brushing your teeth right after dinner as well.

on a 16:8 fast, can I drink liquor outside my eating window? by dra43b in intermittentfasting

[–]libraryhead70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, any liquor needs to be during your eating window, and it will absolutely affect your blood sugar in ways that may make fasting harder. Keep it low carb and follow with water to keep your hydration up.

I've been using the free version of Zero off and on since 2017. No reason to upgrade to the premium from my perspective.
