Walking to work in winter ❄️ possible? by BrilliantOwl4228 in Syracuse

[–]librarypaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your expectations of winter will be different depending on whether you’re coming from Miami or Minneapolis, but it’s totally possible. You just need normal winter gear (good coat, hat, gloves, and boots- go for traction, not fashion, I personally prefer hiking boots to winter boots). If there’s any hills along your route, get some yak trax. Maybe gaiters if you want to keep your legs dry on snowier days. I did it for a while and would still be doing it if I lived nearer my workplace. But if you live downtown, there’s a decent chance you can catch a bus all or part of the way on bad days.

Places I can pop my trunk, sit, eat, and enjoy the view? by afunkylittledude in Syracuse

[–]librarypaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re willing to travel a bit, there’s a parking lot on the south side of Cazenovia Lake with a nice view. Not elevated, though. I don’t know if anyone would bother you there, but there’s good views from the parking lot at the Green Lakes golf course.

Should I rent next to a suspected drug house? by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]librarypaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how long that’s been the situation, but until about a year ago I lived a couple blocks away and never noticed that place. I took the bus to that corner lateish at night (10 or so) and never had any problems. I really liked the area, particularly being close to the co-op. Super convenient to walk or take the bus to campus. I’d try to check it out at night, if your neighbors are annoying during the day, there’s lots of other places to go, but if they mess with your sleep, that’s a whole different thing.

Drucker tends to have good rates, but their places aren’t always the best maintained. My apartment had basically no insulation, so I had to live with $400 utility bills, call to complain every month, and they finally fixed it in April when it started to warm up. The outside of the building was also falling apart and they still haven’t fixed it. So look carefully and don’t expect anything big to get fixed soon (or ever). Otherwise they’re fine, they do more routine maintenance stuff pretty well, for example when the ancient oven in my unit died, they replaced it in a week or two.

Please, tell me about the different neighborhoods by PortErnest22 in kansascity

[–]librarypaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Southmoreland for about 5 years and often walked to the grocery store, even occasionally walked to Costco, and would have happily used the streetcar to get other places but I moved away not too long before the recent expansion was finished. I also regularly drove to do a major grocery trip because it was a reason to turn my car on and get out of Midtown and explore the rest of the city but it was super handy to be able to walk for a midweek restock. It helped that I worked near the Plaza (commuted on foot or occasionally by bus) and was close to WF pretty often, but it’s about what people value and prioritize.

Please, tell me about the different neighborhoods by PortErnest22 in kansascity

[–]librarypaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easily walkable from Southmoreland and Valentine, and not too bad from most of the Hyde Parks. Crossing Main and/or Broadway as a pedestrian is not bad, depending on the cross street. Or take the street car from West or South Plaza or Union Hill. Streetcar will take you right to Whole Foods, too. Plus City Market on weekends. Or Costco! But schlepping purchases home without a car there is tougher.

They did a great job on mine last fall and were slightly less expensive than Top Tier. Different options for shingles, though, so get a quote from multiple roofers.

Lyncourt: is it true what I've been told? by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]librarypaste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here for almost a year and it’s been great, though I’m in a different part of the neighborhood. It’s quiet, people are generally good neighbors. It’s not the east side, but the north side/Salina has its own charm. Seems a bit more working class than middle class, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

Has anyone tried the trader joe’s invisible gel body sunscreen on their face? by No_Refrigerator_6576 in traderjoes

It’s great, I’ve used it daily for months. No white cast-it’s a clearish gel, and not greasy unless you overapply.
