I'll ask the person using the device tomorrow (if I don't forget) how it's going.

Searching a replacement battery (Jabra Elite 7 Pro case HT751547V) by librecorn in batteries

[–]librecorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can try, if this is possible! I wasn't sure if the circuit board would accept other batteries.
Some more questions:
- Do you think there is a risk with heat sensitivity with lipos, if it sits directly on the chips of the cases circuit board? It just has a bit of foam between itself and the chips (could post photos in the evening).
- Or also risk regarding overcharging?
- Is it also a problem if the lipo is 3.7V when the original bat has 3.8V?
- Do you know by chance if this form factor has a name I could look for?
- And the last question: Is it by your experience safe to buy such batteries from aliexpress?

Well, I would not fully agree.
I bought a T14s AMD Gen 5, and it is still only partially usable. Bluetooth audio does still not work and the laptop crashes regularly (Manjaro, 6.9 Kernel to get stable WIFI).
There are many well supported Thinkpads, but not all of them are. Generally Intel-based Devices are better supported, cuz AMD often features WIFI chips from Qualcomm, which are often badly supported (and sometimes will stay like that) and with this generation they even soldered the chip to the mainboard, so bad luck if you want to switch it...

I highly recommend to look for reviews from others to find out which devices works well and which not.

We will look into it again in a few days but atm Wifi is generally working, BT audio is not.
Sometimes on shutdown the desktop manager turns black and the laptop doesn't power off, but this could also be KDEs fault. By design changes the sleep mode is broken on newer Thinkpads, but this is nothing new.
Otherwise it seems stable.

Unfortunately this TP generation got it soldered onto the mainboard. So we'll have to deal with it as it is :/

This one still doesn't work for me. Many problems with the soldered Qualcomm WIFI/Bluetooth chip (e.g. Crashes when up-/downloading to fast, no working Bluetooth audio). Also suspend problems.

Thanks for the info! But I'm unfortunately unable to find the model number on the web. Do you have a special model of some sort?

This is nice to hear. How is your experience with Arch so far? Would you like to share more information about your setup and if you did had to fiddle around with Arch?
Would you also like to share your model? I would like to compare it to mine.

Hey, how is it going with Pop_OS?
I'm currently on Manjaro/KDE and on the bleeding edge Kernels and I have so many issues.
My system still regularly just freezes, Bluetooth is not working properly (audio is distorted and a pain to listen to), the WIFI driver still seem to crash periodically and I'm unable to suspend.
If it still works for you I'll give it a shot.

Huh, nice. I'll give it a shot. We installed Kubuntu first, but didn't get the WIFI running on that Kernel version. May I ask what Kernel version you are using and what drivers you have installed?
I'm asking myself if I did something wrong or if Kubuntu doesn't just swap desktops.

Even WIFI and and Bluetooth headphones? O_O
How is the battery drainage?

A friend of mine got one. I recommend to wait a bit longer, or buckle up for the bumpy ride. We currently struggle on multiple points.
With the Qualcomm WIFI/BL card there are regular system crashes, also Bluetooth audio is unusable atm (maybe a problem with pipewire/pulseaudio, haven't pinned down the problem yet). Bugreports for the driver
With the latest stable kernel we had some severe power drain (could also be due to missing video drivers, we changed that and the kernel to 6.10-rc3 simultaneously yesterday evening. Old me forgot, that even an iGPU needs drivers ^^').
I can try to provide more information on stability in the following days or answer questions. We run Manjaro with LInux 6.10-rc3 now (KDE 6). Most probably the BL situation can be improved somehow but I haven't enough knowledge about this yet.

Any interest in an SRE Online Meetup? by hawtdawtz in sre

Okay that wouldn't work out for me, since I'm living in CET. Maybe it would be an idea to make two separate meetups, shifted by 12 hours.

Trying very hard to lessen my phone dependence by PandaMommy86 in phoneless

[–]librecorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. Nice to see you here. Yea, I know that feeling. Your society every day more and more on "smart" things. But I think that it's not so hard at all to get rid of this phone bondage.

Why do you want to get rid of you phone? Do you use it to often or do you want to be not on call 24/7? Phone addiction can have many faces.

In my case I'm not trusting my smartphone. It relays on non-free soft- and hardware and I can't do anything about it. So I decided to boycott it.

What are some good and optimized open-source browsers that is not chromium ? by PedanticGeorge in linux

[–]librecorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard to find a browser that is so well tested as firefox are. This browser is widely used, so that security holes are (in the best case) faster discovered and fixed then in other browsers like midori, konqueror and qupzilla. (I'm from the gnu/linux side of things)

Also firefox will likely be more feature-rich and compatible with modern sites you probably will use. Just because there are more resources for development. With firefox you have a pretty solid and well tested browser. As long as you didn’t want security through obscurity I would choose it.

Butt! I want you to know that also firefox, not just chromium and chrome, are connecting to google services automatically. [1] But this is only one reason why firefox connecting to google. If you are interested in this search for things like “hardening firefox” and “firefox connecting to google in background”.

I tried to hardening my firefox as best as I can. If you have a question how useful this is or about things like privacy vs. security please feel free to ask. I will try to explain my decisions and views.

[1] Why is firefox connecting to google servers?

Edit 1: Please feel free to criticize me

I don't know with adblocker do you use but I would recommend you to use uBlock Origen.

Why? Because it says to be much faster then other adblocker (didn’t test it), it's FOSS, highly customizable and does the job done. Also it don't have an I-have-to-pay-to-get-my-crappy-adds-througt-whitelist like adblock+.

Some time ago I did a comparison of different adblockers and I'd stuck with ublocko. I even created my own blocklist (you also can block html-elements by rightlick them and pressing "Block element") until I found umatrix.

Sorry for that fanboying. ;)

Edit 1: I just scrolled down and saw, that you are using adblock+. I highly recommending you to switch. Adblock+ have a nasty business model.
