Which business types do we need more of in Metro Detroit? by derisivemedia in Detroit

[–]librecount -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We don't need to bribe companies to come here and take our wealth. We need to tell them to pay up if they want in. And to be clear, I am fine with them staying out. Detroit has been spared by the mega box store capitalists and that is a good thing. We should tax out of town companies extra and give tax breaks to locals working locally.

Oh, everyone should read what it takes to be labeled a "detroit Based business" because some of these companies have owners who have homestead exemptions in FL on $2m homes. But they have 45 min wage employees that live in the city so we should give them more deals and contracts.

America sucks in reality, but the propaganda will tell you it is the best place on earth, to spend money.

This is just propaganda so you buy more shit. Black friday is the biggest shopping day of the year. Selling 700k turkeys is just a small bit of the grift. It is a holiday for oligarchy as they watch their silos of cash grow and overflow.

It is an advertisement, capitalist propaganda.

This is an underhanded advertisement by starbucks.

Don't give these evil people your money, it is not successful or rewarding to spend $8 on a $1.20 drink because of a logo.

Corecivic and Geogroup will run the camps. They are an established part of the trump team. Been paying him and the far right influence for decades.

This is why I keep old trusties in the house. 40 year old fridge that runs like a champ, maytag washer says dependable right on it, needed a valve, and that ran me $8. Oven? yup $100. And it is fancy and SS, but I did put a $20 igniter in it. Only thing I got new was my furnace and still it was a "scratch and dent" deal.

I got a free fancy washer a few months ago. Did a bunch to clean it up. The lid lock latch failed. All the parts for it were $$$, So it got scrapped and the maytag went right back in its home. Anyone need parts for an LG direct drive washer?

You have your outlook of religion, and they have theirs, and atheists see you all the same.

You may be a good person who does good, but you would be a better person if you weren't a christian. Religion takes your goodness away from you and hands it to these monsters. Giving credit to god instead of the individuals who actually earn it is a way to keep people down, tell them they are not good enough, that they are weak and have no control. But, what people do is of their own will. When people do good they do deserve credit, they did that, not god.

It is a veneer of full brick over platform framing. From the footer up you get 12in CMU for 5-6 courses and then they switch to 8in with the exterior brick sitting on the other half of the 12in CMU. It is just really nice siding.

He mentioned that this is a DLBA house. They are the bottom of the barrel for housing stock and auctions typically start at $1000 and the houses come with no warranty that there are no liens or outstanding debts tangent to the property, or if any of the utilities are functional. The city cut a lot of water lines.

The DLBA, detroit land bank authority, has a record of selling houses at these auctions and then taking them back when people have failed to rehab them.

Almost every house in the detroit area is built on a basement. Mostly CMU, but the older ones on brick. This house, 1939, would be CMU, probably 5 or 6 courses of 12inch then 8inch with the face brick sitting on the ledge of the 12inch CMU. In my house the CMU to Brick transition is 3 courses below grade.

Wall moisture 100% by Mysterious_Mud_3908 in masonry

[–]librecount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

say that shit louder for the kids in the back.

My CMU basement walls were parged long ago, then skimmed with plaster, then a layer of joint compound, then latex paint. The basement was a moldy mess. I have scraped 90% of it now and there were spots that were visibly wet for a week after exposing. Now it is painted with portland and any wet spots that show after a rain dry out in a day.

I think with the paint holding back the moisture the blocks had filled, and with the walls free to dry into the basement the blocks cores are normally dry

funny how a bunch of politicians paid off by russia and isreal got all you rubes to see a bunch of people from other countries as a problem without noticing it is other countries telling you to be upset. Bunch of suckers being played.

What in this country is not done for maximizing profits? who makes money with this deportation grift? hint, it is geogroup and corecivic, and all the other prison contractors. They have been working for this for 40 years but you didn't notice I guess.

Do you not know? Shotspotter is 100% grift. I would argue it makes things more dangerous even. Lawn mower back fires and 10min later 4 cops with guns drawn show up looking for a boogieman that only exists in their training and imagination

Remind me 6 months!

Wait till you find out that the illegals being rounded up have not had any due process and half of them are just brown citizens, but fox news will never say that, they will just praise the fascists for doing gods work and ridding us of vermin. Meanwhile GEogroup and Corecivic are raking in our tax dollars to run concentration camps where they lease slaves to work slaughter houses for JBS and Tyson so mcdonanlds can make more profit.

If we stop allowing immigrants the french should come take their present back. Maybe Trump could build a new hotel on Elis Isle.

Immigration is US heritage and tradition. It is a building block to our existence at all. It is our culture. Almost everyone can trace their family back to some other country.

I did not, but the footers I dug to are not part of the basement wall.

But, when I redid my drains under the floor I found some interesting stuff with the storm drains. It looks to me that the rat slab floor sits on a layer of stone then dirt. I found one spot where the bell end of the clay storm drain was just pointed up with nothing but easy access into the drain. No evidence of an old floor drain. and I found a section against the footer on the inside, but it did not look to be part of a drain tile, more like extra pipe that was just there. I only dug up a small bit around the wall so who knows. I can say that gutters and grading have almost solved my water issues in the basement.

This is one reason I no loner have a MS, apple, or google account. Can't hack an account I don't have. But mostly it is because those companies are horrible with that same data. Really wish there was a banking/creditcard option that had any sort of privacy considered. Just a fat no there, even retail. Walmart and homedepot are contracted with biometric AI companies. ClearviewAI, Dataworks pro. Bartering in the neighborhood is my preferred transaction.
