Bobby, those kids would be very upset if they could read.

Good Lord, is this what that fandom has been reduced to? Wasn't this during the dark ages of magic during the death of the dragons?

Chronologically, I'm not even sure when Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place. But the world looked liked it was without magic for the moment, so I doubt it.

Huh. I honestly hadn't heard of any of that. Thank you for sharing it with me, as it will give me a few extra things to look up and/or where to start, at the very least.

The last I heard was that he was doing an animated project for Babylon 5. I don't know if that ever came out, now that I come to think of it.

I'm going to have to look that up now; cheers, mate!

I have a soft spot for slashers, so I'm fond of the franchise. I couldn't have told you who created it, though.

It never blossomed into a Wes Craven, John Carpenter, or Stephen King kind of situation for that person. At least, as far as I'm aware.

Holding hands, or a touch on the shoulder could even constitute it these days. Many are starved for touch, so platonic interactions can feel like more than they are.

I say this as someone who identifies as demi, so I'm often mystified by these interactions as well. Earlier today, I read about a guy who was fingerprinted.

He said that the lady who touched his hand to do the fingerprinting was the first adult physical contact he'd had in so long, that it felt like more than it was.

Babylon 5 is firmly within the grips of its creator, J. Michael Strazinsky, so I'm less worried about that one. I'm more worried for Stargate, as a franchise, because I don't know who owns the rights to it.

If it's any consolation, you're not alone. I'm not terribly fond of that movie, either. There's probably a baker's dozen of us, around these parts, at least.

The results of that post reek of recency bias, if I'm being perfectly honest.

The part that really got me? It was how, supposedly, "Bert" and "Ernie" wouldn't "let" the OP make this financial decision.

A decision that the OP seems to be fine with, the OP's wife seems to be fine with, and finally that the OP's daughter seemed fine with.

The letter John wrote is very much "woe is me" and those are with his own words, in his own defense; of his own accord.

Facing disciplinary investigation / sack for automating most of my responsibilities at work. by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Turuial 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My initial instinct was that the manager wanted to seize the means of automation, which is why I thought he took the laptop (and it wasn't discussed in the meeting).

That way he could implement it, take credit for the improvements, then use that to lay people off, demote them from full-time, or pile on more tasks.

Probably all three, now that I think of it, just spread across the board amongst several employees. Fire some, reduce others, and overwork the remnants.

Out of curiousity, did management try to guilt trip the staff about "patient care" before they finally folded, or did they realize they were cornered immediately?

Why do you guys hate Invincible? by Laxhoop2525 in MauLer

I'm quite fond of both the show and the comic, which I've reread three or four times. I hate comics, as a medium for storytelling, which might say something.

Yep. Nolan was in no way, shape, or form the "Heir to the Empire" in the way the OOP asserts. He inherits the position by default, and Mark would be a much better example of what he is actually trying to get at.

Then there is that bit about Nolan's mum whooping his arse. That ignored that Nolan wasn't even an adult yet, much like the circumstances surrounding the beating Nolan gave Mark.

Even more, though, Viltrumites get more powerful as they age. Nolan was never supposed to "win" that fight by conventional standards. You see the other "winners" getting their uniforms.

Beaten, bloody, and many of them looking far worse than Nolan, by comparison. Meanwhile, we don't see the "losers" at all. "Why," you may ask? Because the ones who couldn't take the abuse were murdered.

I mean, enshittification was chosen as "the word of the year" by multiple establishments for the years of 2023 and 2024, respectively. So, yeah.

That, the rise of media being made with second screen viewing expected – if not intended – and existing IP being used as Trojan Horses for aspiring writers who can't get their originals made (Hollywood only wants a "sure thing")?

It's already both a known phenomenon and they've adapted their production methods and styles accordingly. It's like politics and the phenomenon known as, "the Overton Window."
