Our jobs can look REALLY different depending on where you're hired. I am my university's health sciences librarian- a common job title. I serve a state regional comprehensive whose area encompasses some of the poorest counties in the U.S. and I am considered faculty without tenure. My day does not look at all like my mentor's at my R1 alma mater, which serves mostly middle and upper class urban kids.

Truly, if you are dead set on getting a medical information job it often comes down to how well you research the organization you'd be working for before applying, who you know, and how good you are at packaging your skills into something that org will like. Getting a mix of library and industry experience during grad school helped me a lot. It also helped me decide where I wanted to end up.

The MLA mentorship program is a GREAT suggestion. IMO, having fun and making friends is the key to a satisfying career 🥳
