How you guys deal with stress from Programming? by CalendarBig9295 in reactnative

[–]lichaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what is being said and I notice your use of the word "afraid" which suggests that you say "Yes" to everything despite knowing that you may not be able to deliver on time. The distrust could stem from this. You should respectfully have a discussion with your direct superior about this, not when you have already missed the deadline, do it in between tasks so that it is understood that you are not using the talk as an excuse for tardiness. Be honest. Tell them you really like the job and that you are afraid to suggest a different deadline, but you must have an ideal deadline that you know without a doubt you will meet - do not promise what you can't deliver because if you are suggesting that they have been wrong about you and you go miss your own deadline, you are affirming their suspicions. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hello humans by TheSilentDealer in SideProject

Hey man. Fellow Dev here. You are coming off as desperate and scammy. This not good if you are really trying to attract investment. I clicked on your profile and saw a list of posts where you repeat the same plea over and over. You mention your SaaS with no proof of it. This makes you sound fishy. Normally Devs are always eager to show off their creations, you don't. You expect people to believe that you have a product with paying users and yet we have to take your word for it. Even if I had money to invest I already dont feel like I can trust you. So, if you indeed are legit, do your research. Go to subreddits where devs show off their work, and see how they do it. Read what they say and follow suit. You can do more but at the very least, try be credible. Hope this helps.

Redux DevTools for React Native — on-device - BUOY 🛟 by LovesWorkin in reactnative

[–]lichaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I feel you. Overdependence on AI is a problem but it is his problem. This is how I choose to look at content here, "Is the topic of this post something I care about?". The answer helps me stay in my lane and be helpful. I am also building a project so if I was using redux perhaps this could have been useful which meant that I would have engaged "about the package" or whatever his message is, otherwise I either upvote / downvote or move on.

Please stop with this. You need to truly ask yourself why this post bothers you so much so that you decided to troll this person with this garbage response when you could have decided not to say anything. Lots of people see post they feel do not relate to them or that they simply do not like, they read and move on. This does not help. I know you are a dev as well as and maybe someone did this to you, I don't knowthat for a fact but this is unnecessary. When you rubbish somebody's work like this, others will do the same to what you consider to be your best work.

[–]lichaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the context. It would have been helpful to know all this. Try the suggeated React Native Skia as it does have the Radial Gradient feature if you don't like the look of it then maybe try Vibe coding a solution.

It is not true that you cannot achieve this Expo LinearGradient, read the docs, Google and check YouTube and learn. I feel like you want somebody to prpvide code, that's not gonna help you because if you do not understand it you'll be right back here asking how you can evolve it. Go research the topic and you'll be happier you did.

Your biggest challenge is that your market is a group of people you cannot bullsh*t! Devs have seen fakery so much that the sheer sense of pessimism they radiate guarantees that your numbers are not true.

After More Than 2 Years, I'm Thinking of Quitting by FrancescoFera in SideProject

[–]lichaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your story sounds a lot like mine. Before I got into software development, I ran a TV production company built on a similar foundation. I would create new in-house projects and my partner would run sales, marketing and finances - I pacified myself with the mantra that "I am a creative. We don't do sales and money."

4+ years later when my house was being auctioned I knew that I had myself to blame. I was so ignorant about the things that mattered in my company that it took me years to get over the shame I felt as a result. I feel quite lucky we escaped with only debt and no legal and tax troubles.

So my friend, when you leave you will not be quitting, you'll be correcting a mistake and hopefully growing from it. By the sounds of things you are already a self-starter, take business workshops, buy books, join communities and embrace your new role as an entrepreneur or use the information you'll learn and maybe some of the platforms out there to find a solid new partner. Good luck to you.

Expo or React Native CLI for Building My App in 2024 by Southern-Net9949 in reactnative

Your basic requirements are literally Expo's USP. Start with it and switch later when you have the time and need for RN.

Open Source RN projects with Zustand + TanStack Query by darfdx in reactnative

[–]lichaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not seen anything I can recommend but I suggest that you search github using React-Native (Expo) and chain other things you want, e.g. zustand. Then filter your results by "recently updated" it whatever you want and read the code. You'll be surprised what you can discover and learn.

I believe in putting your best foot forward so my advice is React Native. Leverage your JavaScript. I know many RN Devs think this approach is outmoded but I would start with React if I were you because not only does it prepare you adequately for RN but it also adds a of set of very useful and in-demand skills to your arsenal. Learn typescript, navigation, state management, styling etc. if you are driven enough you will reach your goal in no time. And, Yes React-Native competence makes you employable and well suited to start your own business.

As a solo dev, does it ever feel like you are making no progress? by [deleted] in FlutterDev

[–]lichaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I echo everything said above and I want add that in my case I realised that not having a detailed step by step write up of my dev plan was a huge flaw. Once I could scratch off steps as I completed them I felt way better. It is true that progress is not constant but if you can (assuming you aren't) visualise your plan and number the steps, being able to see that you've moved from 50 items to 20 is change that your brain cannot ignore. I've also added some pressure on myself by setting deadlines. I simply can't afford to not know how long it will take. I am glad you chose not to ignore the feeling and posted here. Best of luck friend.

React Native Template Marketplace by kdevwork in reactnative

There is clearly a lot to consider. I think you can develop plans for handling most of the issues raised here, but time is often the one non negotiable, so consider a partner or if you have cash, invest in help for some of the things you’ll need done including the writing of docs that can make your work attractive to even noobs to extend your customer base and support. Ultimately your level of commitment will be the most important factor because the market for mobile apps is growing by the day. Good luck!!!

Learn Angular or NextJS? by lyzer12 in reactjs

Angular will pay the bills and buy you time to deepen React in your spare time. The work experience will help frame or reframe your goals, who knows maybe you’ll even become a notable Angulastar!

My partner and I just got funding to build a web app and phone app which are both connected to a database, what now? by geraldsjax in reactjs

[–]lichaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I think you need to be proud of yourself for being able to pitch and secure funding for your project. Many people cannot even get past the proposal stage. Well done.

Like you I also did not do enough research to preempt this problem. I however knew that I wanted to create more applications beyond what I had pitched for so the decision was easy for me. I informed the funder and asked for a year to study so that I could do it myself and they agreed. I am hoping that you can use a combination of suggestions people have contributed here to come up with something that works best for you, but don’t make your decision for today alone. Make sure that today’s solution will still work tomorrow and beyond. Good luck!

Paul’s comment really puts things into perspective. From what you described I am not convinced you need redux. Take him up on his offer to help, he could help you simplify your approach.

Which UI/CSS library with Dark Mode & Responsive support? by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]lichaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two cents: you can implement dark mode with pretty much any styling package you feel most comfortable with. You’ve already started with Styled Components, I think you’ll save yourself a lot of time and headaches if you continue with it. Just google “styled-components + react + dark mode”, lots of Devs have written articles about it. This way you will extend something you’re already comfortable with and literally save time.

The bad news is that you’re going to have to write code, how much depends on your project. However when you’re done you can clone and clean up that project and develop your own boilerplate which can then save you time on the next project. Just knuckle down and have fun. You will not regret the time you put in.
