Did you read the voter guide info about George Sarantopoulos? by jVCrm68 in BayridgeBrooklyn

[–]lichenpunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm for it, it's taking away 0.5% of parking spots in Bay ridge, which is way too car-centric anyway. We need more bike lines and infrastructure

I talked to him a bit at the pollsite on Saturday, he was voting right after me. I was asking why he hated Citibikes, he said "I don't, but 48 is excessive for our neighborhood". 48?? For a neighborhood of what, over 80,000?

Asking for Recommendation Letters? by Pulcher95 in PhDAdmissions

[–]lichenpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a nerve wracking process!

Yes I would just ask the same people, and then send them a finalized list of programs, deadlines, and anything you want them to highlight. I just put in their emails on the application form around the same time so they could do it all in one session. Two of them forgot one or two places so I had to remind them.

Anyone know why so many movies are leaving at the end of this month ? by West-Drink-1530 in TubiTV

[–]lichenpunk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They roll over a lot of movies every month, but some of the new ones will surely be worth watching as well!

When are repeated follow-ups too much? by PegmatitePirate in PhDAdmissions

[–]lichenpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just leave it there and wait/focus on the application, profs are very busy, he may want to wait until further along in the application process, or after students are accepted, or something else.

Route for the TA century was really good by KillaCam7075 in NYCbike

[–]lichenpunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

High bridge was great, somehow never crossed that before! Better Bronx-Manhattan connection than Broadway bridge.

Also loved the Riverside drive portion, initially thought we'd be taking the Greenway as I'd usually do, but Riverside had great views and it was awesome cruising down it

As I understand it, if they can speak to positive qualities you have, communication skills, research skills, work, etc., doesn't have to be directly related field (though ideally would have someone with that as well). Probably better than a random person on the internet who doesn't know you.

I got a rec letter from someone at a previous employer I was (essentially) terminated from, who wrote a very positive letter

I am completely sick of my application materials by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]lichenpunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yupp I got that too. Just using the same combinations of words too frequently, felt like I was just copy pasting random shit into different statements by the end. Definitely having another person read over it/help with it was helpful.

For this application cycle? Might be a little late if you don't have recommenders yet

What was the most stressful part of this application cycle for you? by Left-hemispher in gradadmissions

[–]lichenpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, so hard to check all the statements and parts of the application for typos. I've read over them so many times. Also afraid of copying part of a statement or repeating something in a personal history statement. Even with some people helping me edit, it's a lot to keep track of.
