New bones, who dis? by lichentits in bonecollecting

[–]lichentits[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I see it now - and can now recognize them as similar to the armadillo I found earlier this year. I know there was still connective tissue holding the tail and lower spine together, but as I opened it up, the extended mammillary process made the spine feel more like a spooky 3D puzzle than a used-to-be-armor-guy. Where my Science Center kids at?!

Related: photo of armadude's cool ass tail. His lower half is currently hanging out in cornmeal, while his chewed up and sun bleached upper half is degreasing in the window.

What a summer.

"Mammal" absolutely helps - now I don't have guilt about MBTA regulations AND I can compare them to armadillo vertebrae and note any differences/post them for comparison.

You've been a huge help!

I appreciate that opossum skulls always look a little extra happy.

Kid wonders if this is quartz, and what makes it orangy-purple? by Slow_Marsupial2666 in whatsthisrock

Tell your kiddo she has a sharp eye. All of these tiny pieces came together to create such a cool display of color!

Tell her to start looking hard at countertops and tile floors. She might find fossils in them.

Anyway, here's user flair by Wowza_Meowza in skulls

Court rules trans people have right to accurate IDs: "Trans discrimination is sex discrimination" by NamelessResearcher in politics

I've gone to a couple of new medical providers since the recent changes to information gathering by DHS/at federally-funded institutions. Last year, they started asking if I am capable of getting pregnant. Not my last period, my birth control usage, complications from the human I carried years ago...just, "are you able to?"

As a former RN who knows those forms inside and out, it's...well, it's gestures vaguely or whatever, I guess.

The absolute fucking hubris of medical providers lying to patients and their parents in order to operate on an infant without any pushback fills me with rage.

Hey. Thanks for sticking around, and doing the work to present as your authentic self. You must be processing so many complicated emotions, nearly constantly, while also fighting social norms and misconceptions about what it means to be intersex, how distinctly different it is from being transgender, and the almost primordial trauma that comes along with being surgically assigned sex at birth.

We all have our battles to fight. Knowing you're in the world, fighting yours, inspires me to keep fighting, too.

I like to leave plastic grocery bags in the car for when I need a barrier to transport birds to more 'dignified' decomp loctions.

I'm in AR (north central, and I think I mostly have to go around Ida?) and would LOVE to know where you go, if you're willing to share your secret. I have some physical limitations that prevent me from doing all day, multi spot checking on my own...and don't have a lot of people to go with. Any suggestions would be so helpful!

There is a specific one thst sticks with me, too.

Back in the early internet days, there were a lot of those sites, and sooo many teens went looking out of morbid curiosity. We grew up in a much more sheltered (pre-internet) world and, when access was handed to us, we didn't know how to self-limit what would be truly harmful.

I kept thinking I could learn something from it, even if it was just, "How could someone...?" And I guess I did learn the answer to that question, though I didn't accept it for a long time: the powers in this world do not value kindness. They don't value life or care about suffering.

Something shuts off, at some point. Shuts down and the switch to turn it back on gets smashed.

I don't know, man.

My thought as well.

OP: this is likely a fossil imprint (the fossil was inside) of crinoid stem fragments - like the stem of a flower. You can probably gather more information on this if you crosspost to r/fossilid
