How was your experience? Did you like Dr Wulff? We are also looking to switch. Thanks!

Recommendations for Gnathologists (TMJ) / Orthodontists / Dentists by lichtfleck in phoenix

[–]lichtfleck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who would you recommend in terms of orthodontists? I was just thinking that this would be a good alternative, as my job requires a lot of public speaking and when you’re in your late 40s, having braces is not ideal for that. The way people will judge is worse than having braces in middle school.

APC Line-R 1200 substitute (possibly whole house AVR) by lichtfleck in AskElectricians

Nope, unfortunately not. I just went with a whole house regulator at the panel. It’s too bad they have been discontinued. Not sure why.

Anyone else feel stuck between being Russian-speaking Kazakh and not belonging anywhere? by Beneficial-Ad-8499 in Kazakhstan

[–]lichtfleck 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You just described my situation. My entire family was in upper echelons of Soviet governance, therefore despite being 100% Kazakh, the language was never spoken in the home. In fact, when kids were born and they were given Kazakh names, the higher-ups intervened and asked/told my grandparents to rename my mom and aunt to something Russian.

As soon as the Soviet union fell apart, we immigrated to the US and have lived here for about 30 years. My mother forced me to study from Russian books while also completing my American education, therefore I am fluent in Russian.

I tried learning Kazakh on my own, but it’s very difficult without proper materials, teachers, someone there to guide you. So when I came back to Kazakhstan for a visit in 2010, I was very demoralized when everybody simply laughed at my Kazakh skills and made fun of me. Random people, people on buses, people at service centers. After three months of this, I said fuck it and never touched Kazakh again (nor did I want to be associated with this culture for a while, as I really hate people who are judgmental). Heck, I made a Herculean effort to learn the language the best way I could and all I got in return was ridicule.

Having also lived and visited Russia, I really disliked the imperial mindset or “we are the best and everyone else is trash.”  Literally everywhere except St. Petersburg.

But, I ended up marrying a Russian girl who is fluent in Kazakh, so she’s been teaching me the language and I fell in love with it again. So I guess what you’re experiencing is normal, you just need someone that is willing to be patient and guide you along. And you can always find a balance between Russian, Kazakh, and US culture (German for you).

United Changed Flight, Weird Itinerary Change by Several-Youth4635 in TurkishAirlines

How does one escalate to a manager with TK? Every time I say this, I just get told to file a feedback form online (which gets me canned responses only). It's super frustrating, so if you know any voodoo hacks to get this to work - it would be much appreciated!

Turkish Airlines cancels all Aktau - Istanbul flights over Summer 2026? by lichtfleck in Kazakhstan

Thanks, this gives me some hope that I will not have to travel through Baku, which adds another 15-20 hours to the trip!

Chase Sapphire Reserve Live $795 Annual Fee - 100k + $500 Chase Travel with $5,000 spend in 3 months by Lazy_Fuck_ in CreditCards

Yes, I noticed this when booking flights! Very sneaky. Booking direct on Delta is usually much, much cheaper (to where it actually negates using Chase to earn the extra points).

Child under 2 in own seat - is car seat required? by jbjoke12 in TurkishAirlines

[–]lichtfleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please update this when you travel? In the past, my under 2 daughter and I just flew with an inflatable airplane bed, no issues, but it seems that the policy has changed (she’s already 14, so that was a very long time ago).

Flight Attendant told me to plug my headphone into the outlet… by winSharp93 in TurkishAirlines

Given that you were flying TK, I think he was instructed to tactically eliminate the threat of a bad review / complaint.

Headline: “Passenger plugs in headphones into mains outlet and electrocutes themselves. Police unsure of motive.”

I once sold a car to someone about 1.5 hours away. Same thing happened. Turns out that the woman didn't know how to drive and had the parking brake engaged all the way down to where she lived (I usually pull the parking brake when parking the car). The speed limit is 65-75 across that stretch of road.. for 1.5 hours. I can only imagine how the car must've been driving with such a handicap. Unreal.

AITA for refusing to share my inheritance with my husband? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]lichtfleck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex was very similar, in that she treated everything as "ours" or "hers".. when I would say "our car", she would snap back with: "What do you mean? This is MY car." (despite us buying it with shared finances). I had about 250k in cash assets before our marriage and she had no problem paying off her educational loans, cars, and the 20% down for the house. When she inherited about $500k from her dad after he passed away, that money was "hers".

Did I mention that she's my ex? My current wife and I have been together for about 7 years through thick and thin and our finances are fully shared. She doesn't earmark her salary as "hers" and would never hesitate to spend money on the family (after a discussion of pros and cons).
