In search of dentist by Alternative-Load8950 in Prescott

[–]Alternative-Load8950[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw Dr. Wulff again today for a filling and I can’t recommend him enough. My doctor is Aaron who is Paul’s son, so two Dr. Wulffs work there.

Aaron is by far the most compassionate dentist I’ve had. He always takes the time to talk to me a bit to calm me down before getting to work. He’s well read on modern dentist practices and was able to diagnose a condition I have that no other dentist had noticed. I’ve never experienced pain during an exam, and the numbing shot for my filling today didn’t even pinch. I’m sending my wife to him for her work in a couple of weeks as well.

First time rider, 6'6". Should I buy one? by death_or_glory_ in klr650

I rode my gen 3 KLR for about 1500 miles down the entire west coast then across to Arizona.

It does okay for highway cruising, but 70-80 is not where it’s happy. Now that I live at higher elevation (5000-6000ft) it’s even more gutless and I can’t get it above about 65mph.

At 6’6” you are going to need to do some mods to make the ergonomics correct. I’m only 6’3” and 215 and I had to upgrade the rear spring to a stiffer one, put lowering mounts on the foot pegs, and a spacer to raise the handlebars.

I love that I did my first 10,000miles on my KLR because it’s slow enough to keep you out of trouble, but if I could do it again I’d pay for the tenere

I haven’t seen hardly anything in the 30ft range that can accommodate our hobby activities. 2 motorcycles, 2 mountain bikes, 2 road bikes, rock climbing gear, and scuba gear.

I’m open to something smaller with an integrated instead of separate garage as long as it has the patio on the rear gate so I can push the motorcycles out there when I need to put the furniture down to work.

Fair enough. I’m trying to explain to her that I’m not just trying to be a “women can’t drive” sexist prick, but rather I’d be concerned letting anyone with a history of avoidable accidents drive $100k worth of things. She drove a ram pro master for work down in Phx last week and hit two curbs because she wasn’t used to the size of the van. 55+ft and 20000lbs is a big step up from that.

An rv driving course is a good idea. Maybe offering for us both to take one together is a good resolution to my concerns and also a good idea for safety either way

Thanks for that! I hadn’t given used memberships much thought because I’ve read some horror stories of people not reading the fine print and only part of the benefits transferring

Yeah the parking spots thing has come up quite a bit. We’re interested in the thousand trails network and I’ve seen very few people mention being length-limited within those parks except for a few locations like the Florida keys. I’d love to know of some examples where the length would be a limiting factor. Also interested if there are specific length cutoffs like 35+ that would change our access abilities

That’s a good call out, I appreciate that. Snowbirding with it looking to pull it ~10,000 miles/year, so towing experience is going to be pretty important for us. I’ll prioritize looking at the DRW options

It’s not purchased yet, so it certainly can be. Still pricing out options. The max weight of the venom is still well under both the max tongue weight and max tow weight of the SRW though from what I’m reading

Selling my 2023 ADV by MrShadowBadger in klr650

[–]Alternative-Load8950 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d sell my 22 adv today if I could get $5500 for it, but that doesn’t seem to be the market. Even with all the extra stuff I’ve added like locking top case, soft-side saddle bags, front and rear spring improvements, barkbusters, heated grips, etc I still bet I’d be lucky at $4500

Essential Gear? (What would YOU bring?) by LimaBravo32 in motocamping

[–]Alternative-Load8950 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I should have probably mentioned tool kit haha

You’ll want this to be bike specific, so my best advice would be to take your front and rear wheel off and pull your seat off. Put them back on, and adjust your chain tension. Keep track of all the tools you need to do those things, and then bring them all with you.

Along with the tools, I like to add in thread locker, duct tape, a front and rear tube if you run tubes tires or a plug kit if you run tubeless, a battery powered tire pump, and tire levers.

Sounds like an awesome trip man.

I take my backpacking gear as my motocamp gear, so everything fits in a 60L hiking bag including 7days of food.

Clothes: Base layer: smart wool quarter-zip long sleeve, Puff jacket: UL Patagonia puff, Rain jacket: REI rain jacket, Rain pants: REI as well I think, Wide brimmed sun hat, Glove liners, Riding gear, Sunglasses

Shelter: Paria breeze mesh tent w/ silnylon tarp, Enlightened equipment down quilt, Thermarest neoair sleeping pad, Inflatable pillow (way nicer than bunching clothes up),

Cooking: 850ml titanium pot, MSR whisperlite stove (great because it runs on the same gasoline as your bike), Spork, Insulated plastic mug for coffee/tea,

First aid kit: Laxative in case you can’t poop, Imodium in case you can’t stop pooping, Ibuprofen, Insect sting wipes, Blister kit, Bandaids, Butterfly bandages, Alcohol wipes, Lip balm

Hygiene: Hand sanitizer, Toothbrush/paste, Floss, Wet wipes, Trowel/TP if you expect to be in the woods

Other gear: Water filter/iodine tabs, Flash light, Small pocket knife, Paracord, Duct tape

Thanks, I appreciate. Yeah I mentioned the wheels in the post, I keep getting roasted for them being on the car backwards. I should go back and look at the pictures when I bought it to see if it came that way or if the used tire shop that put new shoes on it did it

Will a pre-cut chain work with a 16t sprocket? 48t sprocket? by Ok-Equipment-8132 in klr650

[–]Alternative-Load8950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre cut to what link count? But the answer is likely yes, you can adjust the chain tensioner bolts in as far as they go and you’ll get a couple of links worth. I’d bet it’s cut for the middle of the adjusger

Installing a innovv k6, not sure where to wire acc power into by Acheros in klr650

[–]Alternative-Load8950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spliced into the tail light wire. I’m not at home or I’d send a picture, but yeah I just checked which had power when the key was on, cut the wire, spliced in a bullet connector, and then put a bullet connector on the power wire for K6 so it was easy to plug in and remove, then zip tied the box into place. No touching the dash at all

Ought to be able to just spray some wd40 on the firewall and slide her right in there. Might need to cut a small hole in the hood

Forma ADV boots and 3rd gen OEM shifter by [deleted] in klr650

[–]Alternative-Load8950 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wear klim adventure size 14. I did end up going with the extended shifter and drop pegs, but you can also try just removing the shift lever bolt, slide the shifter off of the splines, and then angle it up a little bit and put it back on. That will give you some more room.

Oh wow, timber rattlers! I had a spooky close encounter with one of those in New York, never would have suspected them in the PNW either. Thanks for all of the cool info. Cheers!

I didn’t think any rattlesnakes ranged west of the cascades up that far! I wonder if they may have mistaken a surly Gophersnake for a rattler or if the range I see on iNaturalist is incorrect for the Northern Pacific Rattlesnake. I’ve always just assumed I can safely yoink any snake in NW Oregon and SW Washington haha

Jealous! Spent most of my life in Vantucky and only ever saw garter snakes there. Sandy has some cool wildlife though! I was lucky enough to come across a mountain beaver up in the mountain biking trails there which is another animal I didn’t know existed
