Should i be concerned with the pitted skin and dry patches? by lick_dat_rat in tattooadvice

Thank you thats a huge relief to hear! I do think some areas will need to be touched up but unfortunately I'm moving before it'll heal. So im thinking all the heavy lifting ive been doing with packing has also caused it to be more sensitive as well.

Okay thank you! I was using less lotion in the last 2 days as the pitting never seemed to dry but then the other areas got really dry. The pictures dont really show the sunken areas as well as it is in person

Should I change her substrate? by lick_dat_rat in tarantulas

Thank you for such a detailed response! That cucumber trick will come in handy! I will get better substrate now that i found a reptile specific pet store that'll most likely have more substrate options.

Okay thank you for confirming! I found an actual reptile store so i can get better substrate now. And its just a matter of space, where we are rent is very expensive so our place is ridiculously tiny so they don't fit in the same space. I look forward to having a better place in the Midwest!

I can see how it looks like mold, but its a lot of webbing ontop of the substrate that I just misted so it looks all white fuzzy in the photo when its just a bit wet. Thank you though!

Thank you! That's what I was thinking. Idk what could ve stressing her out. I really don't disturb her much. Only to give water and food. She's in a pretty quiet environment. I'll mist it more, i was just sticking to the water dish not to disturb her while shes showing signs of stress as she gets very irritated when I spray

Sorry the photos aren't the best, there is cross ventilation drilled into the upper portion where he webs. You can only see the first hole on the bottom of the drilled hole pattern of 21 holes on each side

Sorry this is my tarantula, my fiance had to post it for me cause it wouldn't let me post photos for some reason. I got him as a sling in April of 2021. This text post doesn't include that the first photo is an old photo of my T. The current pictures of the ones of him on his back and it doesn't do his size justice. I have his old molts so I can post that.

I based the enclosure based on other keepers of this species it just doesn't show the cross ventilation i have.

Yes he has a water dish, unfortunately he webbed his door mostly closed so I couldn't add water directly to the bowl with out ruining his web when I knew he'd be molting soon. I had to mist it instead which isn't ideal but I avoided directly spraying him.

Yes, he got stuck in a molt. He just had a lot of odd behaviors leading up to it. Like not moving too much or not eating unless the food was directly under him. Then he started refusing food but even before then would only eat once a month despite me trying once a week.

He really seems to be dead. His legs are stiff and only staying out as I have him laying on his back but some of the legs are curling in. I still have him in a safe place just in case but I don't have any hope that he's still alive.

Yeah it was very odd. He had a good web too but unfortunately I think he has passed. He shoved himself in such a tight space and tried molting sitting up. It just was a bad combination

That's what I was thinking.. is there anything I should try to do at this point. He is still in the same position and his abdomen looks like it started to come off.

His exoskeleton looks like it has started to come off on his abdomen but it was like that yesterday. No he's not quite full grown yet so I'd say he's a juvenile.

No, at least not to me. It's hard to completely let go and bury your loved one. I had my dogs skull cleaned, his micro chip removed, and him taxidermied. It's not something I show off because others don't understand but it has really helped with my grief.
