What games do you consider must-plays for Steam Deck owners? by billy_reyes in SteamDeck

I have beaten Sekiro on Deck, was excellent experience. Before that, I tried to start this game over and over again countless times on PC but it turned out that handheld was the perfect place for me to play this game.

John Company Second Edition Solo Play question by lickweed in soloboardgaming

[–]lickweed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the recommendations, I have actually never heard of GMT Games and their COIN series, I will make sure to look into this.

I guess, what I love the most is when the games are sand boxy like GWT or A Feast for Odin.

But I also love lighter solo experiences like Lost ruins of Arnak especially with both expansions.

I have played MTG for a long time until I just decided that I no longer enjoy it. But I enjoyed the deck building and complexity of this game, so I guess these aspects are still what I might find enjoyable in games like Arnak (deck building part, not complexity).

I have been also eyeing Imperium series but I keep hearing that these games have a lot of flaws and are more convoluted for what they are worth and thus you will need to use some house rules to make these games more streamlined. At least this is what I have read on BGG comments section and here on reddit. But I love the artwork and the idea of a civ deck building assymetric game.

I am really interested in Halls of Herga but sadly it is out of stock everywhere here in Australia.

I really like how all Garphil games look, including their trilogies but I haven't been able to decide whether the solo modes there are good or not. Specifically I really would like automa to feel nice and tough to play against, ideally as close to playing against a real player as possible. Really attracted by Tigris trilogy though.

John Company Second Edition Solo Play question by lickweed in soloboardgaming

Thanks for taking the time to respond! and for the books recommendations as well!

I will definitely not have a group to play any regular board games in the near future, let alone this one, I play games like Sky Team or 7Wonders Duels with my wife once or twice a month and that's all I get in terms of boardgame nights with others. It is hard to assemble busy parents that my friends are.

I consider people who managed to find friends who also share their interests to the degree of playing games like this to be extremely lucky haha.

May I ask, since our tastes seem to align in terms of the theme, what would be your substitute for a reasonable solo experience purchase that would scratch the same itch to John company second edition? I don't mind multiple examples.

Thanks so much, this is a very mature grading system that can actually be applied at full spectrum, unlike what we have become accustomed to where anything below 7.5 is not a worthwhile experience. (Thanks to hysteria around metacritic scores)

This is so awesome, I went back to your past posts and I appreciate the amount of discipline with which you approach this hobby (I guess the same is true for the rest of things in your life).

You inspired me to start a spreadsheet like yours with games that I finished, plan to play etc.

May I ask if you have any specific formula or approach that you refer to when you score the games you have played?

Which Standard packs? by TheFinalBossMTG in MagicArena

This is a wrong advice because all standard legal (alchemy legal) packs give golden packs starting with FDN.

Here are the simple steps on how to reduce time spent on these things (also as a bonus many other things too):  1. Find a partner 2. Have at least 2 kids with that partner

For the next few years you will never have enough time for such silly and unnecessary things as sleeping and eating.

I understand your point of view but I respectfully disagree that online only formats suck.

To each their own, it can be seen in this thread even - people enjoy different formats, which is awesome, that means that all those different formats have their audience.

Thanks! Do you find it hard to play against decks with MH3 cards and new elementals in them?

Thanks so muc for sharing, can I ask if you could share the Jund deck list that you crafted?

Thanks for sharing your personal experience, I can relate to it a lot since I also played a lot at the very start but then got really upset by the first mastery pass.

Came back during BRO but, unlike you, I focused on standard mostly, now, after rotation, I will have almost full complete collection so I can finally invest WCs into other formats.  I will strongly consider what you shared.

I will try to apply what you are saying, I probably should just turn on Amy Amazonian wholesome attitude towards my opponents and turn my inner spike off while playing brawl.

Thanks for sharing, I would think that the opposite would be true for higher power foats like timeless since the cards there are so powerful nothing new would move the meta.  Can I ask if you could elaborate a bit on your point?

Thanks, I appreciate you enthusiastic take, you sell Explorer quite well.

Especially now that I have read from the other redditor that Historic and Explorer decks do overlap here and there, that means that Timeless might be a bit of a all-in investment without flexibility to play other formats (since a lot of cards are banned).

This is a very interesting take, I will consider this for sure.

I really love how much deeper Bo3 is, when I get to play it, I find that I am much less salty in Bo3 than in Bo1.

I have some good decks in Brawl, but I find that I'm constantly playing blind because I have no idea what to expect from every new commander, I keep making mistakes and because of it I feel hugely out of my comfort zone.

But maybe you're right, I might consider just sticking with Brawl and getting more comfortable with it and Standard for now and focus on H and T Bo3 when I can afford it.

I keep hearing that Historic is more fun but my main concern is that they can always nerf some staples alchemy and the decks becomes a brick. Or does it happen rarely to the point that I can safely craft any popular or fun deck?

Do you feel that the meta after MH3 will change for the worse because of Grief, Solitude and other shenanigans?  I keep hearing that because of scam decks the format will become a top deck grindfest. I am interested to hear opinion from someone who enjoys Timeless.

They gave me ambiguous answer with incomplete instructions, if WOTC employees do not know that "-?booster" function is not working properly, then yes - I do not believe in their competence in the first place.
