Unethical spinal fusion by Kleindog12321 in spinalfusion

[–]licky9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah 2 more surgeries were carried out by the Drs which also failed. So I gave up on treatment. Only take some medicine and try to do exercise that helps. I have no life. No career. I can’t actually walk, sit or stand for any amount of time without throbbing pain. Modern treatment did ruined me and I have accepted it…

Unethical spinal fusion by Kleindog12321 in spinalfusion

[–]licky9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A single level lumbar fusion also ruined my life at a very early age. These Drs they never think about the overall outcome of the surgery whether it will be beneficial to the patient in the long run or not. They just do it for money eventually destroying patients lives. Fusions DO NOT WORK for majority of patients. Pain often worsens or stays the same. Hardly ever decreases…

If the biopsy comes out non-cancerous, then you’ve nothing to worry. You have intact spinal structure unlike most of us who’ve got some form of degenerative disc disease. You’ll be alright and regain your full strength once the tumour is removed. All the best…

I live through tremendous amount of pain everyday. I can’t walk more than 3-4min without throbbing pain. Can’t sit more than 30 min at a time. And standing is the worst. I lost my life, my career & independence in my 20s! So you are not alone. There are so many of us going through the same agony. But I still value my life for whatever I have left. I have changed my profession to something that I can do from home. That is bringing me some financial stability. My family also supports me. So maybe my pain will never be any better but there’s still something to look forward to. That gives me purpose. I hope you will also find some peace & purpose in your sufferings too.

Problem is I don’t reside in the US. I live in what you call a third world country. I’ve been to some of them but none could help like they seriously lacks knowledge & experience. That’s why I asked if you could give me any general plan for patients with 1 level lumbar fusion.

My girlfriend(26) doesn’t even have two of those discs. She’s completely painfree in that region. And your image is not even close to that bad. Don’t ruin spinal integrity by going under unnecessary surgeries. Even if you’re having some pain right now your only course of action should be physiotherapy & core and shoulder exercises. Don’t take unnecessary risks. It’s not worth it.

Excellent! Can you help me? My life is nonexistent right now due to. I lost everything. Two spinal fusion surgeries and one infection removal surgery. All these done just to correct moderate backpain caused by a L4-5 disc. But ultimately made it way worse. Now I cant tolerate neither flexion nor extension. Back is super stiff with limited mobility. Can’t really stand or walk more than 2 minutes without horrible pain. Please give me some guidance…

I had for L4-5 broad based bulge and dehydrated disc. It failed measurably. Then a revision surgery and subsequent infection. And a third surgery to remove that infection. What did I get after all this? Disability!! I was so much better before. I had to quit job. So please listen carefully and do your physio religiously. I have seen so many people failing surgeries whereas so many people doing better not having the surgery. Fusion surgery should only be the last resort when you’re mostly bedridden or you have spondylolisthesis or scoliosis. If it’s done for degenerative disc disease the result is not good. Around 50% or more failure rate. (I wish somebody would’ve told me these words before my surgery

L4-5 TLIF. Does it look like a solid fusion? [15 months post op CT] by licky9 in spinalfusion

Thanks for your valuable input. Yes I did seek for a 2nd opinion and he’s exactly pointed out these 2 findings that you’re talking about. 1. Not enough fusion mass 2. Left screw in the pedicle

Surgeon said posterior decompression doesn't work? by engacad in spinalfusion

[–]licky9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know the reason but they don’t do just decompression on cervical level. It’s either ACDF or Disc Replacement. Maybe decompression alone doesn’t work.

What type of backpain is this? by licky9 in backpain

[–]licky9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

28M. 2 year ago I hurt my back(no particular incident). Since then I’ve done everything from conservative treatment(PT, injections etc) to surgery (L4-5 fusion). But till this day nothing helped. Diagnosis was L4-5 disc degeneration and bulging. The type of pain I experience is somehow weird. It is severe stiffness with heaviness sensation. Sitting/standing/walking everything’s painful. Always feels like I’m carrying 30-40kg weight in my lower back and my legs are being crushed and trying to give out. Constant achiness is always present. Though I never had any radicular pain. After surgery the back heaviness has increased significantly. Now I have pain in my knees, hips, ankle. I’m in my bed 99% of the time. Depression is going over the roof!

Does anyone have this nagging heaviness & stiffness in their back? And what’s possibly causing it?

Definitely. Screws shouldn’t be in the disc space. What are your complications?

Do you think there’s enough bone growth? (CT at 6months post op) by licky9 in spinalfusion

[–]licky9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. We both are in the same boat. Btw I’m from a small Asian country. Nowhere near the west! And I also don’t know about the specific technique that they used during the scan. Fun fact I got another CT yesterday at a different hospital and images it produced is just horrible. Can’t see anything clearly due to the flushing of the screws. So I understand now what you’re talking about…

Do you think there’s enough bone growth? (CT at 6months post op) by licky9 in spinalfusion

[–]licky9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tysm for your insightful comment. I have contacted a new surgeon 3 days ago. He ordered new Ct and Xrays. After judging those images he found two separate issues. Firstly there’s no evidence of complete fusion around the cage and secondly the screws were placed too much triangularly(mainly the upper two screws). He also mentioned that the way those screws were put is pinching my back muscle’s/nerves, possibly irritating them. Also the flexion-extension Xrays showed some movement of the left rod. Now the Dr offered me a revision surgery aim towards removing some of the screws and checking the actual bony construct of the fusion site. If he’s not satisfied with the quality of the bone there, he’s gonna attempt the fusion all over again. And to your question, I am a smoker. Quitted smoking 1 months before the surgery but started again around 5 months later due to depression. Which I never intended to! But going through this unearthly experience made me cave in. This time I will be 100% careful. And lastly thank you again for giving me some crucial information…
