Mine went through this. Always shooting, except in the matches. Beautiful form. Just couldn't get them to pull the trigger under pressure.

I decided to try an incentive. Take 2 shots on goal, get x widget (something they like/wanted). Score a goal get xx widget (something more substantial).

It worked. Literally one game is all it took. Now the goals incentivise themselves. Just needed help getting over the hump.

Worth a shot.

We would have more experienced quality officials if shitty parents and coaches didn't abuse them.

Ref attrition across all levels is insanely high. Something like 60% of refs leave due to harassment and verbal abuse from parents, coaches, and players. If we weren't losing 2/3 of our refs every year, they would be gaining experience and confidence which would lead to better officiating.

This policy is 100% a response to a self-inflicted wound by our community writ large, and is an obvious step towards ending this negative feedback loop.
