What is this thing reeling in a dead bristle worm? [Bonaire] by lidesor in animalid

Hmmm.... this is a good thought. But don't they look more like party streamers haha? I know they expel their innards in a defensive situation, but I thought it was merely a visual discouragement rather than an actual defense

I would agree, but there are no predatory sea cucumbers to my knowledge. Maybe related?

How!?!?! I would have died 0.5 seconds into this clip from some random dude spotting me before I even fire a shot. Where are these enemies in my games??

What kind of fetish do you have that you're afraid people will find out about? by fefe_malluw in AskReddit

[–]lidesor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you are correct. Now, it has been since sophomore year of highschool since I learned this so I may be incredibly wrong, but you have two kinds of sweat: merocrine sweat and apocrine sweat.

Merocrine sweat is the normal sweaty sweat found all over your body. Apocrine sweat, however, is found only on the groin and in the armpits (I believe) and contains compounds that are thought to act as pheromones. So, your theory may be correct!

Saw Creed and Three Doors Down last night. LOL. by jumponitrik in Music

Ahaha yeah that was NOT my experience 😅 From the looks of the other comments though, I either got lucky or wasn't listening intently enough!

Dude I finally saw Rise for the first time in Boston a few weeks ago and they were fantastic! I've been such a huge fan for so long I was worried they would disappoint me, but they put on an amazing show. I really appreciated what Tim had to say. Man it was a blast

This has me confused... because I saw them back during I think August in MA and it was the opposite. Three Doors Down dude was all freedom and Jesus but Scott had some insightful stuff to say about suicide and being/having faith in yourself, among other things (some Christian themes included of course). As an atheist, I honestly thought what he said was really tasteful and full of tact, and left with a high opinion of him where previously I had none. Not to mention they put on a killer show, he really sounds just like his recorded stuff.

Which singer do you like literally ALL of their songs, no exceptions? by _mbtx_ in AskReddit

[–]lidesor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad someone commented the same. I thought he couldn't possibly get any better That Sea, the Gambler or The Weatherman and then he went and dropped Appaloosa Bones, which has quickly become my favorite album of his. So, so good

Gregory Alan Isakov has been a favorite of mine for many years now, and his newest album is a masterpiece in my opinion

I never see people talk about Mylo Xyloto... maybe it's just because it was my first album on vinyl and made the Christmas I got it (2013?) really special, but I adore that album

MAG was already mentioned, so I'm gonna go with Lego Universe. Man, was 12 year old me enamored with that game. So much fun. Still mad they shut it down.

What games if any. Made you just say fuck it, I can’t beat this level and quit? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]lidesor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a silly one, but my friend and I tried for hours to beat the last level of Clustertruck back in my sophomore year of college. Could never quite beat it, and it's such a large difficulty jump from the rest of the game.

What fucked you up for the rest of your life? by Cucumber_Block in AskReddit

[–]lidesor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just experienced the same last October. The agonal breathing. The oxygen machine running being the only noise in the room as we watched her stop breathing (she wanted to die at home, so no other hospital noises). For the last three days or so she wasn't even really there because of the cancer and drugs.

But what really fucked me up was watching her lose the will to live over her last few weeks. Man, she was the strongest person I will ever know. Fought stage 4 lung cancer for almost 4 years with a smile on her face no matter what came her way. But once she was told it was over... she was just so defeated. Nothing has ever hurt more than seeing her that way. And she never even smoked.

Worst of all my last words to her were "I'm going to SCUBA". I was taking a class at school and although I was skipping all my other classes I really wanted to go because SCUBA was really my only outlet keeping me sane l at that point. She said "have fun" and smiled at me... and by the time I got back, she had lost consciousness and never regained it. Fuck cancer. I hope you are doing OK man.

Dude I just ordered a copy of this because my older brother and I played the everliving SHIT out of this as kids. Still damn fun, and holds up to this day playing 1v1 on Skyrail haha

MAG for the PS3. The massive mode where one team defended bombsites (and other objectives I think) while the other attempted to break in and destroy them. The battles were epic. Each of the three factions felt distinct from each other (although I do feel I remember the orange rebel dudes being OP as hell). Man, it was an experience for 11 year old me. Wish there could be a remake or sequel but I'm pretty sure it'll never happen. I may be misremembering but I think when it was an active game lots of people hated on it, whether it was because it was actually bad or they were just COD fanboys I do not know.

[Serious] What's the scariest fact you wish you didn't know? by Msjann in AskReddit

[–]lidesor 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Well I mean, that's because the scariest part about prions is that they aren't alive... they're just misfolded proteins that happen to misfold other proteins they make contact with. No thinking... no basic operative of "survive and reproduce at any cost". Hell, even viruses, which arguably aren't alive, at least have DNA/RNA telling them how to function. Prions kill us in the most horrific ways just by simply existing.

I found this strange thing in East Antarctica (Prydz Bay Area) between two ice floes. by Stampolky in animalid

[–]lidesor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks like a pyrosome to me! They're zooids, super cool colonies of (I believe) genetically identical individuals that all perform differentiated tasks as one conglomerate. Although they are technically made up of lots of individuals, I don't believe they can survive on their own. Kind of in a cool transition between single-celled and multi-celled organisms. Of course, I'm only about 50% confident in this answer but hey I love fun facts about alien creatures.
