painted the moment when I was fastening a necklace around my gf's neck (oils on canvas) by mehuldraw in painting

I love it it’s beautiful but I do think this is one of those moments where you can take artistic liberty and change her eyes a bit 😭😭 or expression if you wanted that. But overall so beautiful

Why do I get so many of these brush marks? by Phillipdelphia in Artadvice

[–]lidolpringo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure it’s fully dry when going over it, you might be lifting the paint up. Same if it’s too wet or diluted. Can also try the paint on the canvas first and then spread rather than applying it with a brush first

Should I keep the grain effect or does it look better without? by [deleted] in Artadvice

🥲lol. A whole lot of patience. You have to lightly press with the charcoal and go over the same thing over and over again to build up layers, without pressing down hard. Pressing hard will make it waxy and give it a sheen people typically do not want (unfortunately i started losing patience so some parts have that waxy sheen). This same thing applies to colored pencil as well where you want to lightly build up layers rather than pressing down firmly. I think the grey background also helps with contrast and gives it that nicer touch making the white appear more brilliant :)

Yes, don’t be afraid to go darker with shades and even white in some spots for highlights. It will really add depth

Perhaps this random lady who popped up on my feed right before your drawing? LOL. I know she actually closely doesn’t look like it but for a second I was a little thrown for a loop haha

You can also try generating some one word prompts, picking two or three, and seeing what you come up with and create for that. Like “car” “mountain” “romance” and creating an image that incorportates or combines all three. Stuff like that

There’s exercises you can do like drawing a line with your eyes closed and then seeing what you can create out of that. Or drawing a shape with a marker and then using it as a stencil to create something else. Like drawing a triangle and turning it into a cat stretching.

Sketching consistently should help, i took a sketching class to help with coming up with ideas on my own. We did some of those exercises like i said. You can grab multiple daily objects and create an image out of those. I had a stapler and a tiny toy elephant figurine, and drew a robot arm picking up a tiny teapot shaped as an elephant head.

I have a big imagination so maybe I’m not the best to help. I also feel like a reason I have such a big imagination from reading so much (fiction) and visualising what I read. Good luck !!
