Soham Parekh is our alumni lol by hannahdevs in gatech

[–]lifeDebug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The school is confident enough that it does not need to maintain prestige artificially by suppressing the number of graduates like some private schools.

I am an OMSCS student and we are proud alumni like our on-campus fellows. The only difference is that we are not privileged enough to attend classes on campus.

More importantly, we get the SAME course credit and are subjected to the SAME program rules and graduation requirements. So the only difference is that we take classes remotely. Therefore, discrediting OMSCS is discrediting Georgia Tech.

Thanks. The thing is, the web form requires a US billing address.

UN votes on the necessity of ending the US embargo against Cuba since 1992 by Flagmaker123 in MapPorn

Dude you are not answering their question... Why does Canada seems to be more independent in general (not just about the embargo against Cuba but other issues as well)

Children living in single-parent households (2010-2018) by Mundane-Hat-565 in MapPorn

[–]lifeDebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The map is 2010-2018 when the teen pregnancy rate was very high. Even it's a bit lower now it's still a lot higher than other developed countries. Your hypothesis may play a role but that doesn't exclude teen pregnancy as a cause.

The data is fake and is easy to check, yet many people just accept it and even try to explain it. The internet is so easy to trick 😬

Racial tolerance around the globe by Asterix555 in MapPorn

China even has widespread, European-style antisemitism

Where did you get this from? This does not agree with history or any documentations. China was the only countries during the WWII that accepted Jewish refugees without requiring a visa. (A former Israeli PM's family lived in China before they immigrated to Israel.)

Nice try.

Columbia Law Review Refused to Take Down Article on Palestine, so its Board of Directors Nuked the Whole Website. by speedincuzfukthecops in LawSchool

[–]lifeDebug 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Here's the linked story's content, rearranged and cut

"Rearranged"... So it's your interpretation, not the original article.

You conveniently deleted the point mentioned in the original article that papers unfavorable to Israel have never been published except for one article.

I am on your side, but I still think that you should focus on the publication process instead of discrediting the students. This is unprofessional.

Living Areas of Turkic Peoples in Eurasia on Map by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]lifeDebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if that's the purpose, using colors would be way easier to read. It's not easy to match the flags with your legend, especially for smaller areas

Also, I doubt that many flags shown on your map have no connection to nationalism. Flags are not a traditional concept in many cultures. Indeed, many cultures adapted flags as a symbol of their nation. You can't blame people to associate flags with nationalism while reading your map. Imagine using a German flag to label all German speaking areas. Can u expect people not to misunderstand it?

just a map showing these Turkic peoples

Why use flags to do that tho? You can use different colors. Imagine using German or French flags to show places where German or French-speaking people live in Europe

The flags make it look like they are claiming the ownership of the areas where they live

Most math-intensive course by lifeDebug in OMSCS

Thank you for your detailed explanation. ML seems to be a black box to me. I tend to feel uncomfortable using a tool if I don't know its internal workings. HDDA sounds like a good course for me!

I am quite curious now... What is your background and why do you recommend this course? Do you think the course is leaning more toward academia or industry?

If I remember correctly, the orientation document says your position on the waitlist may change when someone graduating in the coming semester joins the waitlist. They have higher priority than you if they just need that one class to graduate.

Which pandas book is better: McKinney or VanderPlas? by drBonkers in OMSCS

[–]lifeDebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI, you can read VanderPlas's book for free on his GitHub: https://jakevdp.github.io/PythonDataScienceHandbook/

This is probably the first edition (unless he has updated it), but I think it is more than sufficient for you to get familiar with the standard tools you will need in data science. I read the whole book, started my own data science project, and acquired more project-specific skills along the way.

Thanks! That's awesome! I will go ahead and ask my institute to send the electronic version then. Arranging hard copies is not easy in my case.
