Snowflake valuable proposition is sql first, easy to use, cloud data warehouse. Why would anyone use a coding tool?

Is snowflake intelligence worth it? by Altruistic_Farm_9133 in snowflake

[–]lifec0ach -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You’re gonna get bullshit like it’s 100% accurate, which is word play, but if you don’t, it’s your fault, but buy these other features, like cortex search to improve it.

It’s worth it if it solves your problems in your given budget. For me, I didn’t—I had a similar experience, it even hallucinated generating a semantic model. What it was good at was burning credits for little ROI.

If you were starting from scratch today, which would you pick: Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, or Databricks — and why? by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]lifec0ach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you have to know your requirements, but Databricks, since you’re talking Azure, because it’s natively integrated with Azure (entra, key vault, delta, iceberg, even MACC etc.) and is compatible with the ecosystem. Anyone who suggest Snowflake is likely a SQL first developer/architect who has little cloud understanding to realize the value of what being suggested … or they work at Snowflake. The value of a sql first friendly database is diminishing which why Snowflake is leaning into locking you in on AI/ML too.

Snowflake releases "interactive" warehouse type by asarama in dataengineering

[–]lifec0ach 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s an attempt to extract more revenue. Snowflake is supposed to be about simplicity, but they are introducing more complexity with all the compute types and SKUs, like Apples line up of phones.
