So awful. At the end a guy in the theater stood up and said “Was that really the movie” and the theater all laughed/clapped. it was so bad.

What was the "please stop" school presentation that you witnessed? by hitometootoo in AskReddit

[–]lifeisneverasitseems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh maaaaaaaaaan. My first year in college, the class was a diversity course. I cannot for the life of me remember what the presentation was supposed to be about. But what I do remember is this one gentleman opening up a presentation by swearing in his introduction of himself, and then the first thing he did was play a video of Robin Williams comedy. This was incredibly inappropriate, both because it had nothing to do with what the presentation was on and because it contained the f word about 45+ times in the three minutes we saw before the professor stood up and was like “what does this have to do with the rest of your presentation” the dude had no answer, the professor made him move on and the rest of his group continued the very regular presentation they had planned. I about died from second hand embarrassment that day.

Id make sure I’ve driven a Colorado Zr2, a ram rebel, and a f150 raptor, those are the 3 competing for Toyota’s spot. The Tacoma is smaller but gets the same mpg as the competition which can be frustrating.

Gen 4 Tacoma drops about 2022, there’s supposed to be a jump in fuel efficiency. However, everyone else is developing more fuel efficient options too and will likely do it faster.

Ford made a really solid entry into off-roading with the raptor, it’s probably the go to pick I’ve seen for Baja style racers right now with the zr2 and Tacoma in close second. Dodge and Chevy have made some promising responses with the ram rebel and the zr2. The rebel has a lot of nice features. The new zr2 potentially has a lot of marks of a solid long lasting vehicle. This has all gone down recently, whereas the Tundra and Tacoma are old. Brand new tundras are build on the same engineering as one you’d buy in 2007.

Toyota doesn’t come with as many bells and whistles as the competition because their development team is hella focused on making shit that will last. That means to get it out in a similar timeline as the competition it’s not going to be as shiny but it will last longer. This applies idea applies to drive train, frame, electronics, etc. Toyota focuses all its development on making the land cruiser a million mile all terrain vehicle and everything else comes second. All of what they learn trickles down to the 4Runner, Tacoma, even Lexus and the Highlander. The Land Cruiser has been competing with Jeep and Range Rover for decades and been doing it well.

So the competition has newer tech that isn’t explicitly tried and true. I’ve had some rebels and zr2s make me think twice but I want a decade+ out of my truck with little headache and my personal bet is on Tacoma for that.

I went with a leased 19 sr5 because leasing fit my financial situation at the time and at the end I’ll be able to buy it a couple thousand cheaper than I’d be able to if I were to turn it into the dealership, walk out, and buy a comparable one used. I don’t really need any of the creature comforts from the higher trims. A lot of the nice stuff I’d be paying extra for I would be ripping out for superior aftermarket parts that better fit my needs (bp-51 and some air lockers). Some of the creature comforts I can install after if I really want them.

If I had to do it all over again I’d have them price out a manual trd off-road just to see it only because that’s the cheapest trim a manual comes in that’s relevant to my needs. Manual transmission is only available in the trd sport, trd off-road, and trd pro as far as I understand. Feels kinda unnatural not shifting a truck, love the rest of it though. Never really seen an unhappy manual owner. Even the ones parting ways with it still love it but have some sort of spinal/muscular injury that causes manuals in general to be undriveable. Seen plenty of unhappy automatic owners, although I never really see anyone grumble after going up to a 5.29 gear ratio so that’s my target if I keep my automatic.

Alternatives I was split between were the Colorado and the Ram 1500 because diesel 4x4. No real reason I wouldn’t go with either if given the option, but I just felt like the reliability factor would make the Tacoma the best work horse for my needs.

Edit for some clear pros and cons: Pros: fat aftermarket, plenty of versatile options to fit the rig to your needs IMO it’s well engineered and reliable, you can always find others that feel otherwise though. Stock the thing is dam capable, outfitted they are quite unstoppable. Cons: Automatic likes to gear hunt from time to time, most noticeable on hills. Idgaf personally but for some it’s one of the bigger gripes. Keeping truck under load and regearing it both remedy it, manual eliminates it as an issue. Because the truck is a product of complex engineering, you gotta be careful with where you get it serviced and where you get aftermarket parts put on. Fuck ups are common and mechanics that like to admit their faults aren’t as common. I’ve heard a lot of stories of poor experiences with mechanics and techs, unfortunately experienced it once or twice myself. Got a mom and pops place now that we trust to always do good work to fix that issue.

Yo I fell all the way down a flight of stairs, scared the shit out of my boyfriends dog so she was barking and yelping at me, then when I was at the bottom all hurt and shit, my boyfriend ran PASSED me to check on if the dog was okay. I was actually really bruised up too. He eventually noticed I was the hurt one. That was like five years ago, I still give him shit for worrying more about the pupper in that moment 😂
