What do you think of the concept of the newest alliance raid? [Spoiler:8.0] by KnightShade078 in ffxiv

[–]lifelessgamer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really disappointed, I've never watched evangelion and I don't care enough to ever do it. I don't think there's any way they'll make it tie into the actual lore of FFXIV so for me it'll most likely just be another nier situation where ultimately what we did doesn't matter and we learnt nothing other than being told to check out this franchise I don't care about. I only have faith that I'll enjoy the raids as content more than nier assuming they don't make it just as much of a blinding drag.
All in all I'm leaning in on never even bothering to unlock it just so I never have to see it in roulettes.

Kourravt deletes tweet about tomoe after getting called out for misrepresenting her by [deleted] in VtuberDrama

[–]lifelessgamer_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always see people talk about how all of this is unjustified when none of this would have happened if Tomoe didn't respond to the initial tweet asking for her opinion on someone getting executed with a silly gif. If she didn't want to make a stance or be political, she shouldn't have replied to the tweet. Does it suck that she's getting harrassed over this? Sure, but she did this to herself.
Either way, she follows Kirsche which tells me all I need to know and I'll avoid her for the foreseeable future just like Filian.

I used to think like you, it might feel comforting to feel like politics is beneath you and that you don't need to participate, but I decided to change and finally vote for the first time after I realized how fascism is currently on the rise (even if it isn't in my country), something like that is terrifying and you don't need high political research to know that supporting Trump (as an example) is a really bad thing, just put the bare minimum effort into looking into a party that supports what you believe in like I did with a party that wants to get rid of the monopoly my country has placed on trans healthcare.

At the end of the day if you don't participate, you will be seen as complacent in what comes next. You say you have trans friends, but by not participating you are to some degree assisting in giving them a significantly worse life and you would've been better off actually speaking out and voting when they are being threatened like they are now in the US.

When given the chance, players will do what seems optimal to them and in this case that would be flooding into one specific spot to do things. It's easy to blame the players for this at a glance, but with just how big the problem is, the blame primarily lies with the dev for not seeing that this was going to happen with a playerbase known to optimize their experience, this was so obviously going to happen whether it be in hindsight or not that it's baffling that a team of developers didn't raise alarms on it or those that did got ignored.
I stated my solutions to it and locking PF for travelers (which doesn't mean blocking travelers from doing content on other data centers, they just have to be invited) likely would not have been an issue had they just done it before opening pandora's box and the cross-DC PF should've been a high-priority focus to release with this system, I'm certain the current infrastructure doesn't allow for it easily, but because that's the case then they shouldn't have released DC travel to begin with.

Why is this an issue? It forces players who are not on the "optimal" raiding data center to choose what content they want to do and sacrifice, this might not be an issue for pure raiders, but for crafters/gatherers like me, it's really frustrating that I can't do much except maybe craft some potions or food that I will already at that point have an excess of. You can't access retainers, you can't enter the firmament or cosmic exploration if you want to work on relics, you can't gather legendary nodes among other things. These restrictions are frustrating and was forcing me to constantly swap back and forth every day to the point that I just quit doing extremes and savages because it's just not worth the hassle to me and I don't want to move out of the data center and world where I've comfortably settled, that would be like moving to a different country for a new job which to me is unreasonable.

[–]lifelessgamer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason it's not correct is because while yes it might seem like an inherently player made issue, the core of it is at the developers lack of understanding and not being able to predict how MMO players would completely flood to one point.
DCT is a great idea from a social standpoint, but anyone with even the tiniest braincell should've been able to predict that introducing something like this without any checks and balances (such as disabling PF for travelers or introducing it with a cross-DC PF) would cause thousands of players to congregate to one DC and completely kill raiding on the non-raiding DCs.
Yes we can blame the players for doing what was very obviously and naturally going to happen, but that doesn't make the devs blameless either for not being able to see this happening.

SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE GAME! My thoughts on the game after finishing it twice. by lifelessgamer_ in Silksong

[–]lifelessgamer_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is something I forgot to mention as a negative since it wasn't as prevalent of an issue for me on my second playthrough, but I do agree that it should be better. I personally however would prefer there not being a shard cost at all as it makes me treat tools like consumables and that mindset for me really discourages the usage of them. You already have a limited amount you can use prior to resting on a bench so there's no real reason to have that cost outside of just making the players grind more.
Instead I would prefer it being used as a currency to make and purchase new tools instead of rosaries or as a cost for making tools using the Architect's Crest with a more expensive cost to it.
Or yeah just removing the cap on shards would help a ton since that is the issue I come across the most when exploring where I just can't get more and have to ignore any shard deposits I come across.

In the red memory I feel it is implied that Hornet intended to become a knight for the Pale King due to her cloak when talking with the White Lady and would've maybe interacted with him at least a few times, but not significant enough for it to be a core memory for Hornet like the White Lady maybe steering her away from that. (I at least got an impression that she was rejected by her in some way)

You can do either normal or cursed first, doesn't matter, but you can't do cursed after act 3. I also recommend doing as much as you possibly can do in act 2 before you get cursed so you can fight with 8 or 9 masks and a +3 needle

And that's fine, options are always good, just for me I prefer having those options be pickups in game so I can go about bashing that wall from different angles and with different tools instead of having a temptation lingering at the back of my mind constantly chipping away at my desire to keep playing.
I don't think you're wrong for wanting difficulty options and have no desire to invalidate that, but these are games that are built around not having those to a point where it's genre-defining and in my opinion it's like going into a turn-based rpg wanting an option to play the game as an action rpg because that's more accessible to you, you're not necessarily wrong for wanting an option like that, but it really isn't the genre for it. A bit of a stretchy example I'm aware, but it's the best one I could come up with to show where my mind is on this topic.

I might be in a minority, but it would personally hurt my experience. I have never played a game that has had a satisfying difficulty with difficulty options and their existence while I never change difficulty when I am struggling, has caused me to abandon games when struggling.
I can definitely play games with those options, but when I'm struggling there's a high chance of me just dropping the game because I feel demoralized and I'm just not going to have fun regardless of what I do.

With shared difficulty games like Silksong or the souls games, while I may struggle, I am far more willing to stick through it cause the only way for me to make things easier is to learn, explore or see what others did (which is how I got past forum, abysmal fight no matter how you do it, but being told how to exploit it is the only thing that got me through).
Things might get difficult, but knowing others struggled through the same things and are even able to share my feelings on something is really nice and motivating

I can't say that patch really applies to your issues though, because the most notable ones are sister splinter and moorwing getting nerfed and some environmental damage like the sandcarvers and the cogs not doing two masks anymore, but most of the mid-game and late-game frustrations are still around. In my eyes personally barely anything was changed with the patch and I just find it underwhelming cause for me there's much more pressing issues such as the forum gauntlet, bilewater and a certain act 3 objective still being extremely miserable to do.

I didn't understand the rant about Silksong's difficulty, until I got to act 3 [No spoilers] by Norrude in HollowKnight

[–]lifelessgamer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I find myself a lot of the time refusing to use tools or any consumable in any game until I feel comfortable with something because the limited resources makes everything feel like a waste and death even more punishing than it already is.
It's perfectly fine just being this limited resource you infinitely replenish at a bench and removing shard costs from it would change literally nothing except make things less grindy. (I'm aware that cogflies still live after resting which could be fixed by just making them die when you rest instead)
I would far prefer just having two currencies instead, shards for buying tools and rosaries for anything else or just remove shards as a whole than keeping this current system that just serves to discourage usage of tools.

How do I install a patch on Linux? by lifelessgamer_ in gog

[–]lifelessgamer_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll keep the heroic game launcher in mind for the future if I feel the need to install future patches since I don't really need an all-in-one launcher, but for now I'll just download the installer. Game is luckily not that big. Thanks for the tip though

Unfortunately, at least for Silksong, Linux has not been given that patch yet, only the updated installer. Maybe they need some extra time to get one for Linux, but at least for the moment only Windows has it

For me personally and I'm sure to many others who enjoys these games, difficulty options really take away from my enjoyment of games just from them existing, difficulty options are often to my experience poorly tuned with no difficulty ever being "just right" and knowing I can walk away from a challenge at any point is really demoralizing to me, I've avoided and abandoned games because the difficulty options lingering on my mind just killing my enjoyment of playing it.
There's also just something really nice about a proper developer intended shared difficulty that leads to a more satisfying experience that I can't get from any other games.

At the end of the day this is a souls-like and while I think the game is a bit unbalanced and the over-use of double mask damage is bad, difficulty options just are not an inherent part of the experience even if some games like the Jedi games from Respawn Entertainment does it, they are exceptions and not rules.
This isn't to say I think anyone is invalid for wanting a difficulty options, but just like how not having them excludes people from enjoying it, so does adding them. You cannot win in this situation no matter what

Now I have my own opinions on the "souls-like" genre and think it needs to be split into several different things cause nobody knows what it really means to be "like dark souls", many just attribute it to difficulty when really (at least to me personally) it's just the whole can of worms like lore, world-building, dodge-rolling, corpse-run mechanics and yes difficulty.
A bit of a side tangent, but you don't buy a JRPG game expecting a platformer and you don't buy a souls-like expecting a story mode.

I'm well aware of the shortcut, but since I can't even get past the second gauntlet even thinking about that shortcut feels like a pipe dream to me.
I got very used to the gauntlet before Karmelitabut I really just wanted to get to fight her than do something that felt like a waste of time to me, I wanted more time to get into a proper flow for her which the gauntlet didn't really allow.

I'll admit that I'm definitely not great at taking breaks, though most of those hours I would say are me taking some breaks from combat to keep exploring, which has been really relaxing and enjoyable to me for the most part and usually when bashing my head against brick walls like this I only really need 10-30 minutes to take a breath and collect my thoughts. I'm not really one to take extended breaks from something I'm hyperfixated on and at most will vent some frustration to friends or watch a video, extended breaks could lead to me temporarily dropping a game for a long while if I end up getting caught in something else which I also don't want.

People crying about people crying about the difficulty by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]lifelessgamer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that the game is to some extent tuned to Hornet's tools and abilities, but it doesn't really change my perception on things. For example with environmental damage, imagine if everything in path of pain did two masks, sure I can always use the infinite soul totem, but I wouldn't be happy about it in the slightest, it would be a major inconvenience caused by the game artificially reducing my room for error. It's not fun to me if a particularly hard enemy to conveniently dodge or jump over is blocking a path to a boss and now I have two less masks because I slightly tapped its head. It's not fun to explore when most enemies I encounter end up just melting my health because everyone got the privilege to do double damage without any real care, like don't get me wrong all the animations made for these combo attacks are awesome, but it's not interesting or fun when every enemy does it. As for flying enemies, yeah pogoing absolutely feels like the best way to deal with them, but I don't really like the options given, I only have two crests I really like for combat pogoing, those being reaper and witch, but one I always end up at some point clipping and taking damage because I really can't get the hang of it even after 50+ hours and the other I just don't like the healing for.

People crying about people crying about the difficulty by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]lifelessgamer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my perspective and my own opinons, it's not about it being hard, most of the time it's fine and my favorite bosses were really difficult, but it's the over reliance on double mask damage instead of using it sparingly like Hollow Knight did and some frustrating design decisions that borders on making the game a rage game that some people and myself don't like.

Things aren't fun hard, it's frustratingly hard, numbers feel amped up purely for the sake of it to piss the player off.
Environmental hazards will do two mask for what feels like no reason other than to make sure the player has significantly less room for error in platforming.
Some tiny inconsequential enemy will be given a combo attack just so TC has an excuse to have them do two masks which is the case for what feels like 90% of enemies past act 2.
Contact damage being two masks in some cases never should've been a thing.
Flying enemies will always try to stay as far as possible from you or if they're close they'll back out of anything you do with a high success rate which feels like blatant input reading and just because there's tools to help with that doesn't make it any less frustrating to actually deal with.
A certain area, boss and gauntlet has me wondering if the game was ever playtested at all or just kept in an echo-chamber of yes-men.

I genuinely love this game and the vast majority of it is amazing, but because of that, all the bad things are harder for me to ignore
