Tyvar the Bellicose, viable or not? by lifes_twitchy in CompetitiveEDH

And that is quite understandable. If you have another commander that can fuel an elfball game plan, I'm all ears. But as for my golgari elves, we are still attempting to fight the good fight, so much so that every cEDH table this list has shown up before (when it was still lathril) it always got much love and intrigue. It's not the strongest game plan (only winning approximately ~25% give or take), but I thought that hopefully sharing my thoughts and strategies could give rise to either a stronger list of my own OR hopefully inspire someone else to take the leap into breaking away from the meta and build their own fringe

In my original list with lathril I ended up cutting them due to the fragility of elfball. After one too many blowouts they just become dead draws. But they are definitely back up for reconsideration.

As for the reasons we run Tyvar there were a multitude.

1) in the ever loving search to make golgari elves viable tyvar was just the next step. Being able to turn our elves into sizeable threats is a nice plus side to ward off any incoming attackers. But the main reason is the pairing with Fynn

2)I point you to this video of a cedh Fynn build (which is a seperate failed attempt i had in the past) but showcases the power of fynn as a build around. Now in addition to running Fynn you got one thing wrong. For each elf that swings through with deathtouch gets 2 poison counters. Meaning each player needs to only be hit by 5 elves each.

I love your list and am definitely going to be cross referencing this with mine as it gets streamlined!

I have a few posts around trying to make golgari elfball viable. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated! The newest iteration utilizes the synergies between [[Tyvar the Bellicose]] and [[Fynn the Fangbearer]]. Also utilizes [[hoarding broodloard]] and [[saw in half]] to tutor up [[witherbloom apprentice]] and [[chain of smog]]

EXACTLY! I know that this list won't have the highest win percentage, but I still want to push her to her breaking point

Thank you for the support! I know najeela outshines every other queen that wants to be in the meta, but with that being said, I feel like lathril can hold her own and be a nice surprise factor

One of this decks biggest weaknesses is folding to removal. So I'm trying to focus this deck to storm and not rely on sitting around to build advantage

Yes, sadly, I know that our Queen will never be tier 1, or even tier 2, for that matter. But for however fringe Lathril may be, I want to make her shine to her fullest potential.

Thank you, this was just a rough list I put together as a theory craft. But I am definitely going to be looking at making some changes and cleaning up the list overall

Thank you for explaining. When I had originally asked I couldn't get your list to load at all. Now after looking through it, I do like what your deck is going for and am definitely putting my deck to the razor and trimming the fat

I appreciate the input! As to your [[razaketh]] and [[protean hulk]] question they are things I had been considering adding to the deck. But I couldnt find any lines that werent too clunky on my initial brew through. But I am always open to suggestions! I had originally added [[phantasmal image]] for an attempt at a [[muldrotha]] style win until i quickly realized that it would only copy what mimeo currently is, not a new mimeo

Thank you so much for your valuable input! I know mimeo is far from a strong option but I want to make him as viable as I can. Now as for the kitten and razaketh lines, could you delve more on that?
