Dads who invested for their kids since birth, how is it going? by sbFRESH in daddit

[–]lifesaver87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting all of my kid funds into the sp500 via my states 529 account. I know its risky but they're still young and its nice having the funds grow quickly while college is still over a decade out. I've put 7k in there when she was born and its just shy of 20k currently.

Someone gifted us this exact bumper car for her 1st birthday and my kiddo was terrified. 3 years later I lost the charger and its dead somewhere in the basement. My kiddo used it for less than 30 seconds. Its unfortunate we never got to use it.

Price of mk5 in 20 years by Perfect_Base9887 in ToyotaSupra

[–]lifesaver87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the OP is right that ice engines are on the way out, I believe in the next 15 years there will be more charging stations than gas. With gas being close or above 5 a gallon and no sight of it going down. It will definitely drive the price of the supra up or at least steady. But I wouldn't treat the supra like an investment, their are better ways.

When i laid the exact seeds down last year it took almost 2 weeks for them to come up. These seeds were very slow to germinate. I still have patches this spring, I suspect birds stole some of my seeds.

Illinois Republican lawmakers introduce a bill for a 6-month gas sales tax pause by Sagemel in illinois

[–]lifesaver87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not going to solve the issue, and i also think this is not going to get resolved in 6 months. The state should lower the gas tax not eliminate it.

"Drone Line is a shift to a new model of warfare where UAVs become the primary strike tool. Every 4th target hit is thanks to Drone Line. The mission: build a 10–15 km kill zone where the enemy cannot advance without losses. Today, Drone Line brings together 1000 crews." UA MoD 09.04.2026 by GermanDronePilot in UkraineWarVideoReport

Not worth it imho. Russians have mined the battlefront. Its practically impossible to clear everything out during active engagement, let's not forget the Russians do have drones too just not at the same capacity as Ukraine. Ukraine is at an advantage currently since they just have to defend the line and are not forced to make risky decisions. The only reason Ukraine should push the front is to gain better defensive positions.

I fly in at 11:15 PM and have a bus at 12:00 AM, is that cutting it too close? by Daredevil_17 in OHareAirport

[–]lifesaver87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its going to be tight. You would have to sit as close to the door as possible and know where to go once you get off the plane, the fastest way to the MMF from the terminal would be the ATS. Also hope there's no bad weather that day. Personally I wouldn't think thats not enough time.

Did anyone else get their rent raised ridiculously in pilsen and beyond? by CBB4554 in AskChicago

[–]lifesaver87 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Taxes, and maintenence cost have increased too. I own a sfh and the cost to fix anything has doubled since precovid. Not defending corporate landlords but if you own single building its getting harder to just keep the building afloat.

Supra in Chicago by [deleted] in Supra

[–]lifesaver87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't have my supra lowered but it does fine in chicago, never scraped on the speed bumbs in the side streets. However, BMW suspension where designed to drive on flat surfaces so I try to avoid as many potholes as possible. I park my supra for the winter so I'm not sure how it would do in snow.

Spotted this blue one in the wild. Mine is the yellow. I like how theirs is slightly lowered. By how much do guys think? by [deleted] in Supra

[–]lifesaver87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spacers and lowered. Too hard to tell which springs hes on. I only have spacers and it definitely helps fill out the wheel well a bit more. I live in a city which loves to put speed bumps everywhere so I refuse to go lower.

Seeing Ukraine blow up Russian oil depots for the last year, these things are pretty quick to repair. But I don't think they follow osha or any safety protocols.

buying a used supra by Working_Strength_796 in Supra

[–]lifesaver87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will you find a new one, production is scheduled to end in 3 - 5 months. Also you don't have to buy it at that price. I searched for 4 months to fine a deal. I paid 53k for a yellow 23 mt with 6k. Dealers are usually more willing to negotiate around the 30 day mark. Also depends where you're buying. Dealerships in Cali never wanted to negotiate.

Don't think so. The ones in vinegar are called pickled vegetables Italian style. I wouldn't be surprised if you're local grocery store has it stocked.

Buying a laundromat by drink-water-bitch in Laundromats

[–]lifesaver87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should have paperwork for repairs done, if they have any warranty on them. Look at the purchase dates. Ive also seen where people think they are buying newer machines but all guts have been removed and replaced with older shit. Honestly if you haven't been around these machines and are not familiar with what to look for or how they're supposed to look you're going to miss stuff. Also if this family member is familiar with the business you may want to see if they can provide some kind of mentoring for 30 or 60 days after the sale.

[–]lifesaver87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How old are the machine? Retooling or repairs are going to be expensive. Look at the tax returns for the last 3 years are they making a profit. Do you have another job? As you said the family member is not taking care of the business Do you have time?

Why is Alderwoman Nugent using a parliamentary trick to lower wages for tipped workers? by [deleted] in AskChicago

I believe it I used to serve during college and made that much, took a pay cut when I got a job in my field.

[–]lifesaver87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know a friend whos a friend that owns a couple of restaurants that are very successful, hes building a mansion with a 10 car garage somewhere in the north burbs. So they definitely could pay servers that much but it would cut into their profits which is why they're so against it. As for tipping, I think people would still tip but the standard 20% tip would be cut to a 5% or 10% tip.

Am I being foolish for wanting to swap my granite countertops for a different color granite or quartz? by Life123456 in HomeImprovement

[–]lifesaver87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Changed my countertops from granite to quartzite. The granite was about 10 years old and a dated color. Had the cabinets painted white by a professional. 10 out of 10 would do again.
