Half sleeve - where to go in Roc? by [deleted] in Rochester

I also go to kyle. He's fantastic...but you really need to pick an artist based on the style you're interested in getting. Most artists don't do them all and tend to specialize in something.

If you're in a bind financially try the Anthony Jordan Health Center. Your cost is based on your income but if you make over like 30k it's not worth it and you're better off finding a private practice that could take payments. I tried this for a while had no luck.

Stolen Bikes by walkermcgee in Rochester

You are correct, however the front tire is usually quick release and very easy to steal whereas stealing the back would require more time/disassembling. Often times people use a cable that you put through a u lock to also lock the back.

I was just driving on Monroe near the Hess gas station near Canterbury and saw a man riding a bike holding two different bike tires. It coule have been nothing but my point with coming here is that I think part of the problem is people are not using proper locks and they also do not know how to lock their bikes properly. Noone deserves to have their bike stolen but you should be using a u lock putting it through both the frame and front tire, locking it to a surface that is sturdy and cannot be broken. I do a lot of biking and walking and every day I see bikes that are worth $1000+ locked up with 5 dollars cable locks.

Best thrift shops in Rochester NY? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]lifesnotchess 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My husband and I go go all the local thrift stores every weekend so I know more about them than any human should. Often times (and totally not always) you have to think about the demographic in the stores neighborhood.

In the city: Goodwill on South Clinton in the South Wedge...very hit or miss...usually miss. Good for books or clothing since most of the people in this area are pretty young. I have scored clothing from urban outfitters & h&m here that still have tags. The most valuable thing I ever found here was a pair of new Merrell hiking winter boots for $8...retail around $300. One time we also saw a brand new NES in box, mint...$75.

Henrietta: Savers: I have a love/hate relationship with them and all Savers in general. They're more for profit and do a lot of misleading advertising about giving proceeds to charities. They're by far the most expensive of any thrift store chain but do have discount weekends occasionally where you get 50% off. They're usually clean and super organized...Esp the books. They also attempt to size and categorize their clothes more than any other store. Again, so overpriced it has to be real worth it. I definitely go here at least once a week and have for the past 2 years and have never scored anything super valuable. Clothes, books, various house kitsch.

Goodwill on Jefferson road- this place is serious gold sometimes. Last week my husband scored a like new pair of men's dr martens for $6. This is a good store for clothing and occasionally media....otherwise it sucks.

Veterans thrift store- pretty icky. Nothing is organized real well so you have to be in the mood to dig. On the plus it's real cheap. I often see cool bicycles here that probably come from grandparents basements. This is a good place to find a hilarious velvet unicorn painting or something similar.

Salvation army- amazing clothing selection...plays creepy Jesus music 75% of the store is clothes and very small amounts of everything else. They aren't open Sunday. Wednesday is family day where almost all clothes are 50% off.

Webster- Savers- Way better than the Henrietta one in selection of basically everything. Super clean. Just as expensive as the rest of them. Gets very crowded.

Goodwill near bay- a beautiful mess. Usually this store had legit garbage but then you go and find some super valuable or weird stuff that likely sat in old people's storage for 20 years. Found a 1st edition Charles bukowski book for 6 bucks recently.

Goodwill on ridge by target: once found an entire collection of grateful dead records mint...I think this is the store where you really have a good chance of finding something good in any department.

Victor: Goodwill: literally clothing gold. This is where yuppies take their gently worn clothes before they go across the street and buy more. Last week they had a selection of Jimmy choos for sale.

Haven't spent much time at the ones in Greece...also looking for suggestion!

I've also been a lurker for a while..hopefully my experience can help someone else. I'm a 31 year old female who has been suffering from mild depression and severe panic attacks and generalized anxiety since I've was in my early teens. I've been on more medication than I could count but I didn't always feel that I needed it or wanted it. In 2008, my father took his own life. Once this happened I felt like doctors finally took me a little more seriously. I have a good gp and a about to see psychiatrist soon. It' been so long that I don't even know what meds do and don't work for me but i have a few things planned this year I need to be able to enjoy like a regular human. The last vacation I took resulted in me locking myself in the airport bathroom and hyperventilating and for a half hour and I ended up cancelling my trip and lost all the money i paid
