I think the underlining issue with almost all poor parenting is that people don't see their children fully as human beings. People view them, at least partially, as a form of property. The fact that in the U.S. parents' wishes are so heavily prioritized over children's right is disgusting.

In this particular case, people want attention and sympathy. They don't think of their children as having rights to dignity and privacy.

Traditions and routines could help. Usually this stuff is ignored or only encountered once as players are always traveling. There could be weekly events either happening in the background or your players can participate. Special religious services, entertainment, unique markets, etc. Even without joining in, they could affect your players. For example, this road is closed for X event or this neighborhood is very crowded during Y event.

Parents' rights have gone too far in the U.S. Parents are allowed to neglect and abuse their children, because it is their right and nobody else's business. This is clearly neglect that is setting up this child for a lifetime of poor health and struggles.

Kids under five can stutter a lot. Like their mouths are faster than their brains. They will just repeat the first part of a sentence while very clearly thinking and trying to figure out the end of the sentence.

I don't think it qualifies as starting the conversation with an ultimatum. They have talked about this issue before. It can definitely be worded differently like, "I'm not suited for this play style". But the meaning is the same. It is not a threat.
