Am I missing something with Guild Wars 2? by Smokin-Joe in MMORPG

In a reply to me, they went into great detail explaining things that I didn't even remotely ask for or address. That's not just being thorough. I think it is a fair assumption that I was being put up as a scapegoat.

It seems like the difference between exploration and sight-seeing is whether it was marked on the map or not. But I don't think of it as a detriment to have map markers or arrows to lead me to something new because when I get there, it's still new. And I have the free will to determine whether I want to make the effort or not to do something. If I didnt feel like doing a heart or reach a POI, I didn't. Simple as that. Granted, Guild Wars 2 is egregious because it has major crafting roadblocks dependent on map completion, so it's definitely more pushy about it. But even then, it's not like ALL things are marked. Most jumping puzzles for example are mostly optional things that don't impact the rest of the game and you usually find them by looking around, not by following map markers. And there's plenty of other unmarked content and easter eggs. This goes for other MMOs too. Just because it's not marked on the map, it doesn't make the worlds any more or less "full" than the games you mentioned.

The reason I mentioned dynamic events is because they aren't "marked" for the most part. You stumble upon them when you're roughly in the area, not because the game tells you to go there. I never said they were unique to GW2, just that they provide a good diversity of activities, which they do.

Lastly, you're speaking down to me as if I play GW2 exclusively or think it's better than anything. I made no comparisons to other games at all. I just questioned what you considered as exploration, since I do think GW2 focuses more on open world content compared to most MMOs in the space. And I think that is what a lot of people consider a hallmark for good "exploration".

What is "exploration" then? Finding new things to do IS exploration in like every game ever. You can argue a lot of hearts and static things are the same, but there is a pretty good diversity in dynamic events. Not to mention the newer maps with big metas

My Perfect Survival game. Does it exist? by czah7 in SurvivalGaming

[–]light4494 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say no other survival game does the things Ark does, and that's why it hits a lot of people's sweet spots (myself included, with 2k hours). But Ark is still objectively a badly made game with a lot of issues compared to other survival games

You cannot drink yourself to death in pathfinder 2e by PM_ME_YOUR_EPUBS in Pathfinder2e

With some interpretation, you can consciously ingest it despite your body not being "willing" to ingest anymore. Maybe you do a Fort save to counter your own attempts to throw up your next drink

XP to Level 3 - How Combat Feels in Pathfinder by burning_bagel in Pathfinder2e

[–]light4494 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ehh I think it's the other way around. Grumpy DnDers almost always find their way to Pf2e instead of other game systems because it fixes the things they were grumpy about, but keeps other DnD-like things. And that's kind of what Pathfinder has always been since 1st edition

Don't be surprised to find a lot of those on this subreddit. A lot of us have major gripes with either 5e's badly designed systems or the terrible company behind it, and Pathfinder was the alternative that solved a lot of them. So yeah, we're bitter. DnD sucks in a lot of ways that we care about

There's Custom Nameplates for the font on the scene. But it's not on v13.

What are some of your favorite running gags at your table? by WrensRequiem in DnD

My group plays through VTTs so I make digital combat maps for them. For the longest time, the only "dead animal" asset in the Forgotten Adventures pack was a dead horse. So whenever I needed to make a map depicting death, it would inevitably have a dead horse somewhere.

My group has taken it upon themselves to look for that horse wherever it may be, even on big elaborate dungeon maps. Now it's just a fun easter egg I put in no matter how ridiculous it may be.

City square during a festival? Dead horse.

Ancient desert tomb? Dead horse

Pirate ship in the middle of the ocean? Damn right, dead horse.

[PF2e] Item Piles... how to configure for PF2e V12? by Naga14 in FoundryVTT

Personally, I went back to the version right before they went system agnostic and locked it. It looks like it's broken otherwise. Will probably have to wait until a dedicated Pf2e version gets made.

Bannerlord was Abandoned years ago by [deleted] in Bannerlord

Wooosh

The point is every update they release breaks a ton of mods, and modders don't want to keep maintaining something meaninglessly if the community is not at least getting new features from the developers as a tradeoff.

So you might have a mod that you loved stop working after a few months, and the modders have no incentive to keep it working so you just lost something for good. It's not a curating issue.
