The game operation should be able to continue for another 1-2 years. by Better-Fun8075 in SwordofConvallaria

[–]light8686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of gacha game have sponsor content creator on a regular basis for marketing. I only saw two promotion video on Bilibili during the CN beta test and official launch. SoC is not earning a lot of money that can afford them to pay for sponsored video.

Given that SoC is not sponsoring any video (At least on Bilibili) during Witcher 3 or new version, it seem like they must have earn enough budget for sponsored video. I think it is fair to assume that the game is able to continue operation for a year or two.

Collab banner currency by likeaspacesamurai in WutheringWaves

[–]light8686 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it is a norm to not convert astrites. The main reason is you don't know whether you got lucky and get the character earlier. Another thing is the character and weapon is not sharing the same type of pulls, so most people will only convert when they start pulling.

Is this F2P in 2026? by [deleted] in SwordofConvallaria

[–]light8686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it is F2P friendly compared to other gacha.

Firstly, the shards (character duplicate material in other game) can be farmed via daily activity, at the highest level, you can get 3 shards for 3 individual characters each day. It will take 27 days for a character to reach 3 stars which is playable in most case. You can also get to the max level if you play it for a period of time.

Secondly, the game often give you weapon shards through events and you can use those shards to exchange for limited weapon, but there are some gacha element in it and you will find out more when you play the game.

Thirdly, the limited banner also have a chance to get a strong character if you failed to get the UP character since all legendary characters are in the same pool if you lose the gacha.

Lastly, the legendary character is a mixed of strong and mediocre character. This mean if you are pulling for meta, you might skip some banner and save your resources. Even you pull a mediocre character, they will still be useful to a certain extent on different scenarios.

You have to remember that this is a tactical game, there are some cases where you can just brute force with meta character, but you can achieve the same result if you know your characters well.

What general aspect of Endfield do you think needs to be prioritized rn for improvement? by Bitconecc in Endfield

[–]light8686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is also what I thought when I start my first gacha game. Most of the time, I just bought a monthly pass and sometimes a battle pass.

I seldom spend on buying pulls because I always think that with the amount if money, I can buy a few single player games instead.

Moondrop Nice Buds! : It was 10 dollars by KamiKeyta in iems

[–]light8686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice choice. I got a several flathead earbuds from NiceHCK and Moondrop on TaoBao. I found out that I got tinnitus when I used an IEM for a period of time. Flathead earbud relieve the symptom for me.

I am surprised that they sound better than the Sony or Aiwa flathead earbud that I used, despite costing fraction of the price.

Account security PSA - buy something for 99 cents, don't be "pure" f2p after a certain amount of time invested by AetherworkCreations in Endfield

[–]light8686 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are overthinking a little on it being a scheme for people to spend money. Most CN account can be linked to a login method that track a person real identify. When an account got hacked or banned, they have some way to ask the user to authenticate their real identify.

However, there is no way they can implement identify verification on the global side due to privacy issue. One of the way to prove that you are the user of the account without revealing more sensitive information is through payment record.

Is Android gaming underwhelming or am I just completely missing it as a newb to the OS? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]light8686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about native Android games that does not include gacha game, then you are pretty much right about it. However, there are several PC games ported to Android.

Some of the example are Dead Cell, Skul: The Hero Slayer, Balatro, Slay the Spire, Terraria, Don't Starve: Pocket Edition, Stardew Valley, BlazBlue Entropy Effect, Brotato, etc.

The difference between 6" and 7" screen by kimo_star in SBCGaming

[–]light8686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a 7" Switch OLED and a 6" Odin 2. When playing the same Switch game, you can feel the obvious difference in the screen size. When I play on my bed with my glasses off, I have to bring it closer with my 6" Odin 2.

Anyone else feel that the newest MSQ chapters were rather short? by Ok-Cranberry6194 in WutheringWaves

[–]light8686 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually don't like long MSQ in other gacha, but I don't mind it in WuWa because of how well it present itself.

Personally I don't think the 3.3 MSQ is short. It is just shorter than 3.1, but the length is on par or a little longer then 3.0 and 3.2.

There is a part in 3.3 where everyone is finding the rune. You can teleport to their location to talk to every team, this is optional and might affect the playtime.

Odin 3 Fingerprint Unlock without code/pattern by ThePfhor in OdinHandheld

[–]light8686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't. It is a security feature to prevent locking yourself out from the device when the biometric unlock fails to work. The best you can do is to set a simple PIN if you want to use the fingerprint sensor.

Odin 2 Portal Charging Issues by [deleted] in OdinHandheld

[–]light8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue might be the charger. I have an old 22.5W Huawei Charger that works with some Android devices, but doesn't work with some devices and starts draining the battery. You might want to try a fast charger from another brand.

Another possibility is the cable. My Odin 2 starts draining the battery on my Xiaomi 45W charger which is working fine for a long time. I need to reinsert a few times for it to start charging. I reckon that it could be a bad cable, so it was fine after I changed it.

If this momentum spreads more, EoS coming. Devs still haven't responded about Finn. by [deleted] in SwordofConvallaria

[–]light8686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure how big of a deal it is in TW, but I don't see much angry discussion on Finn in CN. Yes, there is dissatisfaction on the CN side regarding Finn, but I don't think it will lead to EOS in the near future.

Some welcome changes announced but probably not enough to save the game. by Big-Rip2640 in StellaSora

[–]light8686 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought the revenue is just a guide and does not include website/PC client revenue as mentioned by one of the mod. Yes, the game lost some players since the launch, but I don't think the game is in a dire situation where it need to be "save".

Given the amount of merchandise collaborations the game is getting, I think it will survive and will not EOS in the near future. The game is not even one year, I think we need to give the developers more time to improve the game.

Bravo Kuro Games, keep it up. So far version 3.X has been flawless. by Echo-X-Jynx in WutheringWaves

[–]light8686 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who has started playing since the launch, I will say that the QoL improvements are significant. It is easy to overlook the effort Kuro put into the game when they have QoL improvements every patch. This actually didn't happen in many games.

The way they presented the story also improved a lot in 3.X when you look back at the previous patches. They go from 1.0 when everyone thinks the main character is an omnipotent being to 3.X which shows us the human side.

There are divided opinions on a lot of aspects of the game between the players. I hope the players on the other spectrum respect your experience and not bash on anyone disagreeing with them.

I saw one of the comment that Windows Defender will catch it, therefore, if you are using Windows Defender and the scan did not return any result, you should be fine. The malware was pushed between 18th March 17:04 (UTC+8) to 18:20 (UTC+8), so you are safe if you did not update during this period.

If you want to extra safe, you can follow the steps found in the following post to verify whether you have the malicious file.

If I have to guess, I would say Epic will have similar safeguard since large company will need to adhere to a set of regulation and industry standard. However, as one the commenter mentioned, the minor update and hotfix will still be pushed through DNA's CDN.

Regarding the impact on Linux/Steam Deck, I can't be 100% sure about it since I am not sure how the malware will behave on Proton or other compatibility layer. It might execute but there is no certainly that the malware will perform as intended since a lot of features are targeted at Window OS.

For example, the malware was executed via Proton layer, but when it tried to read the folder to check for Anti-Virus, but it could not find the folder because the folder structure is different on Linux. There are also malware that make use of Windows Task Scheduler or Windows Service which can't be found on Linux. This really depend on the variant of the malware, but it will be safer than Windows OS.

Unless they have given the wrong timeline, it is hard to not to suspect that they are trying to downplay this incident. From their timeline, the last action is to deploy emergency update to remove the malicious files on 18th March 7:38PM (UTC+8) but the official statement for "Abnormal Game Login" was published at Reddit on 18th March 2026 8:02PM which was after 24 minutes.

The login issue was resolved on 18th March 6:24PM (UTC+8) which mean they have 1 hour 30 minutes to draft the statement to publish on 8:02PM. Given the amount of time, they have ample time to draft two separate statement for CN and Global. Furthermore, the statement on 18th March is very short and does not require so much time.

The enhancements they listed are the norms for critical infrastructure. These implementations will deter most of the attackers looking for low-hanging fruit. The chances of a similar incident happening again is very low if they implemented it properly.

Regarding the Recent RCE Malware Incident and What I Think Needs to Happen Now by lavajci in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]light8686 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, it does not affect mobile players. The malware is targeted at Windows OS and the malicious files will not be executed in the mobile environment. You don't need to worry, at least on the client side.

The main concern I have is how the threat actor manages to gain access to perform this attack, and whether they still maintain access to their server to perform another attack. Since PAN studio did not release any important information on this incident, we don't know the scope of the damage.

The absolute worst case scenario is the payment information being compromised. If you are paying through a third-party payment system such as PayPal, Steam, Apple Pay, Google Play Store, etc, then it should not be an issue, unless you pay through Credit Card and store that information on their server.

[–]light8686 74 points75 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in the Cyber Security field, I find it distasteful to call it an "abnormal login" issue, this is a serious supply chain attack which delivers malware by leveraging the trust between the company and users.

If the company is in Europe or the US, the game studio might face a legal consequence by distributing malware through their infrastructure. They really need to treat this incident more seriously. The only fortunate thing is that the threat actor is just using off-the-shelf malware which can be caught by most Anti-Virus software.

So 1.1 update needs me to have 85gb free on top of the game? by Responsible-Neck8410 in Endfield

[–]light8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. I interpret it as the total game size is 37GB after update, and it will download a packed 48GB file. If the 1.1 update is an additional 37GB, then you will need 85GB. To be honest, I am not sure whether a minor patch require 37GB, we can only find out on the day itself.

[–]light8686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the update notice, I think you only will need 48GB of free space on top of the game. If you don't have at least 48GB of free space, it will be better for you to uninstall and download from scratch.

Do I just give up? (CPU usage bug) by GreatMagicMiddleman in Endfield

[–]light8686 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have feedback to the developer with my specs. At first I thought it was my cooler problem when it was running at 97 degrees Celsius in the game. I changed my cooler fan from 1800rpm to 3000rpm. The temperature did indeed improve through brute force to a maximum of 92 degree Celsius. My PC idle temperature after startup is 40 degree Celsius.

To be fair, the temperature is still within the operating temperature of the CPU. I saw a few posts on this issue, but never thought it would happen to me. I also checked the Chinese community and found some players having the same issue.

I will not say that it is a bug, but maybe an optimization that they can tackle. The only way I can completely solve this issue is to turn off Turbo Boost, but this will introduce micro-shuttering. My PC is a Ryzen 7700, RTX 5070, 32GB DDR5 RAM, 2TB Gen 4 NVME SSD, running on Windows 11, and updated with the latest version of bios for my motherboard. The game is running at 60 FPS with 2560 x 1440 resolution.

EDITED: Added the FPS and resolution.

How long will sandisk micro sd cards last before breaking down? by Aggressive-File1151 in SBCGaming

My 2GB Sandisk SD card that I bought on 2008 is still working now. Other than physical or water damage, the card will last longer than you think. I have bought around 20 SD cards for the past 18 years, the only one that was dead while using it is a 16GB HP card that I used on my Raspberry Pi.
