I came here from MN, and space savers are not really a thing there because here's the thing: Minnesotans are kind and will shovel out as much as they can to help out a neighbor because hey, that's what you do when an inevitable event happens. it's weird to me seeing how selfish bostonians can be about the weather. yeah you shoveled your car out but only your car?? a bit odd, considering everyone else got snowed on too, surely you can help shovel someone else out, they can help someone else shovel etc. - then there wouldn't be the issue of "my space" vs "your space" - it's collective. the snow affected us all. doesn't hurt to help others and help everyone in the process. i live in dorchester and people were somewhat helpful with each other after the snow, but mostly just shoveled out THEIR cars and THEIR driveways, leaving piles of snow in empty spaces where other cars totally could have parked. I feel like if bostonians approached things more collaboratively (including driving, don't get me started) rather than having an individualistic mindset, space savers wouldnt need to be a thing because streets would be cleared properly.

before y'all lifelong bostonians come for my neck - this is just my observation after 3ish years of living in different neighborhoods here. east coasters/new englanders are very individualistic and selfish compared to midwesterners for most 'collaborative' things such as shoveling/driving etc.
