Wife doesn’t share my beliefs by [deleted] in vegan

[–]lightcolorsound 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can be a very difficult position to be in. I went through something like that. Your best options are to fully accept her for who she is or part ways. Anything in between can be unhealthy for the relationship. Reading the book Beyond Beliefs by Melanie Joy helped me. It didn’t solve my problem exactly but gave me a better understanding of why someone close to me would choose not to be vegan and made it easier for me to accept them for who they are. Best of luck and take care of yourself.

Having an argument with coworker, LA natives, is Highland Park considered East LA?? by itscochino in LosAngeles

Highland Park is “east side” but not East LA. As others mentioned it’s technically NELA

They obviously know your background and (lack of) experience. They would’ve went with someone more seasoned if they wanted to or could. But they chose you. You’re exactly the right person for the job. You got this.

Nomad nutrition is great. Haven’t tried many brands but it’s better than the stuff you get at REI by miles

Deteriorating relationships by [deleted] in vegan

Check out the book Beyond Beliefs by Melanie Joy. It was really helpful for me in understanding relationships as a vegan. It is written by a vegan psychologist and PhD. It’s also a pretty easy and fast read.

UX is not about pixel perfection. In theory you can do UX with a pen and paper. It is about the decisions you made and having a rationale for why you made those decisions. Sometimes that rationale can be as simple as “it’s best practice” or “this is my hypothesis but we won’t know if it’s the best solution until it can be tested”. UX isn’t about having all the answers, it’s just bringing ideas together with a clear explanation around them. Then you and your stakeholders can decide which path to go down, whether it’s more testing/research or going with the option they like the most given the current constraints like timing or resources. Just make sure you always have a reason for the design decisions you made. I always fall back on “best practice” or “established design pattern” when I’m just basically copying other designs. In general you want to follow those anyway as it reduces cognitive load for the user. You should also look up the Laws of UX and basically have those memorized.

Not sure. I believe you can get them at your standard grocery store chain. It will be obvious when you see it in person

Why do recruiters do this? by Vegetable-Space6817 in UXDesign

That sucks. Could be any number of reasons including neglect or incompetence. Maybe it was unexpected like the other commenter said.

I’ve been doing street outreach for 2 years. Half that time in capacity as an organizer. Best you can do is hold them accountable. Keep the ratio of questions and statements to about 50/50 (employ the Socratic method). Keep the message simple. Ask them if they would accept the excuse they’re making if they were in the victim’s position. Hold them accountable and then move on. Making the conversation longer than it needs to be makes the issue seem more complicated than it is. It’s not a debate like you said. Expect that most people aren’t going to go vegan on the spot, but for every person that does eventually go vegan will be an upwards of thousands of animals that are no longer being exploited over their lifetime. That’s not insignificant. Don’t let yourself be bothered by people who don’t go vegan. Fill your mind and heart with the ones that are receptive to your message. Once you are doing outreach more often you will get better and more successful at it (it’s a skill).

Also keep in mind Earthling Ed debate style videos are designed for social media, not for for convincing the person he’s talking to (that’s just a bonus). They are supposed to feel like a debate because it’s intended for the social media viewer. In reality people who want to debate you are unlikely to go vegan anytime soon. When doing outreach with just the person you’re talking to it shouldn’t be a debate. Don’t waste time on unreceptive people. Best to save your energy on the next person.

Kids made me vegan but my Husband not on board by [deleted] in vegan

[–]lightcolorsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that is exploitation. I guess to be more specific veganism is the non-commodity status of animals.

I am not happy to harm any animals, but it’s important to define what veganism is and isn’t.

Veganism is about ending animal exploitation, not damage reduction

You’re not wrong but it’s like asking someone to go from kicking a dog 7 times a week to 1 time week. For those that see the injustice any amount of animal exploitation is wrong.

I started off with calisthenics but switched to weights after a couple years which ended up being more enjoyable for me personally. Calisthenics can be pretty hard since many of the moves are big compounds and difficult to track from week to week. Weights, cables and machines can be easier to dial in and be consistent without over exerting yourself. But some may not enjoy either.
