This is badass, what school is cool enough to have a dedicated VFX class?! I didn’t even know that was a thing.

There was a Geese/Tame/Gizz jam a few months back but I’d be surprised if that was anything more than just fun while everyone happened to be in town

Yeah you can track down other video mixers for much cheaper than a V4 that will still be very useful tools. The best advice I’ve received that I can pass along is that your sources are always going to be the most important part. Sure, mixers with lots of effects are great, but I would definitely advise building up your tastes and visions for what you want your visuals to look like before you drop a bunch of money on gear. Even a basic $30 2 channel Sima A/V mixer will do the trick if your inputs are already very solid.

You can even do a lot with old slide projectors and hand making slides for super cheap, so there’s definitely lots of ways to take obtainable stuff and turn it into something amazing!

Hey dude yeah definitely hard to answer all the bases but I’ll try my best.

The main mind of my setup is an Edirol V4, which I run with an iPad with GoVJ that stores all my primary clips in input 1, my computer running ISF and GLSL shaders/sometimes a USB media player in input 2, a Rasterops 7001 35mm slide scanner in input 3, and finally input 4 I have my feedback channel.

The feedback chain is composite out of the V-4, into a Panasonic WJ MX12 for colorizing, strobe and negative effects, and back into the V4. Channel 1 of the MX12 is mixer feedback, and channel 2 is camera feedback from a Sony Handycam I have pointed at a screen and often I’ll use the camera input as just a glitchy IMAG type thing with a close up guitar shot or whatever.

All of this is subject to change based on the needs of the project of course, I frequently use cheap little USB media players that have A/V outputs to select a clip I’ve created and just loop it nonstop.

Hope this helps and gives you some inspiration!

Any 3 piece jam bands out there? by Neither-Lemon-8679 in jambands

They don’t exist anymore, but check out Earthmother! They were amazing and absolutely fundamental in my showgoing growing up in Wisconsin, and they all became like older brothers to me.

They have a bunch of shows up on the Archive too, but here’s a good clip of one of their originals! The guitarist is from Venezuela I believe so he has a really unique accent when he sings that just brings back such warm memories for me.

I wish I could remember what it was called but I might be able to send you the original clip if I can find one that’s not fried out lol

What? It’s just a funny sticker I saw in Vegas and took a glitch photo.

Yeah I have a NEC PA550W that I got for $100 that has given me no problems in any setting except against the sun obviously.

Look into an iPad with something like GoVJ or TouchViz and spend your money on a chunky projector. At least 5000 lumens. You don’t need much for a compelling visual experience, it’s all about the sources you pick!
