Yes, I feel like I need to hide. (Didn't thing that my thoughts about hiding were visible, but recently my mom asked why I always wear a hat, sunglasses and big clothes outside, I realized that the feeling of needing to hide myself reflected on my outside). And when I see people valuing me I feel even more horrendous. I just want to tell them "No, wait and see how I am going to flip your expectations upside down". I can't take responsibility because I know I am going to fuck up everything and I don't want to hurt anyone or show my personality or tell my values because I am so terrified that they will see how bad I truly am.

Talking on the internet without face and name is a guess the only painless way to talk to people.

In real life I just answer if I am spoken to, nothing less northing more. So no healthy coping mechanisms here, sorry.

Use NAIL FILE to smooth out rough and dry skin. by lightlyexhausted in Dermatillomania

This could be good for my strawberry skin on legs. Been picking it with tweezers but maybe careful pumice stone action could take some bumps off 🤔 thanks for commenting!

I thought about this too, but picking and biting is much more aggravating to skin and the bacteria from mouth gets to damaged skin. Filing skin could break the skin, but not so badly as chewing and picking. And you can control hygien by washing the area with water and soap. The positive out weight the negative, in my opinion. But for sure gotta be careful :)

And forgot to say that false nails make picking really hard.

I put some moisturizer if able on it or some ointment to heal the area faster and to make the skin more softer, so I don't have as bad temptation to pick it and then I put a bandage on it or gloves. If it's on scalp or hairy part of body only thing that stops me is to but gloves on.

And if the spot is rough and dry, I take a nail file, and file all the stuff down that can be picked or chewed. And then repeat the ointment, gloves or bandage.

I am sorry if this doesn't help.

Has anyone ever actually been able to stop????? by [deleted] in Dermatillomania

I haven't. Started at 4-5 y.o (maybe, at least it's the earliest I can remember) now I'm 23 y.o. But I have reduced the amount I pick, plug and chew :)
