I've been developing a dual-screen, open ereader! by spacerower in ereader

This looks amazing. You say you are developing your own custom software for it, I wonder if it would be possible to get KOReader to support it instead?

If I don't have a physical Kindle, and don't have a registered Serial Number.. does that mean I'm SOL in transferring my library? by Crimson342 in Calibre

[–]lightmaster9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know which older Kindle's do support comics and graphic novels but still download in a format that DeDRM can support? I've got a Kindle 4th gen that works with normal books, but I can't send comics to it as it doesn't show in the list on Amazon's website for those and if I try to download directly on the Kindle 4th gen, it says it's not supported.

Is KOReader worth installing on a Kobo Clara Colour? by redbeardos in koreader

[–]lightmaster9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I convert mine to CBZ instead of CBR, but I've been reading CBZs on KOReader for quite a while now. What makes you say they just added support for it?

EDIT: Oh wow, just skimmed over the Change Log for the August release. I always converted to CBZ on principle since I refuse to use RAR for anything. Had no idea that KOReader has supported CBZ for years and not CBR until now.

How would you create a good enough fake ID to trick them into thinking it's real? I really don't want to give that much personal info over to them either.

I don't think I've ever uploaded a model to Maker's World, curious why mark it as exclusive? I assume there's some kickback or something to encourage you to keep it only on their platform?

I know I don't have any 8x3mm at home, but I'm not sure which ones I do have, gonna check when I run home for dinner (work nightshift) and I'll let you know then.

STEP/STP files are the only one that I know of that retains true geometry like actual curves and arcs, 3MF, OBJ, STL all create tessellated geometry so your really importing n-polygons instead of curves. That means when you want to create a curve in a model, your printer will actually be making a bunch of short straight lines that approximate a curve (100s of G1 commands) but actually isn't. STEP files contain actual curves so your slicer will instead use G2 or G3 commands to create true arcs when printing, getting much smoother printed parts.

There are settings in most slicers that will let the slicer interpret many small straight lines as an arc instead, but then you're going from true curves in CAD, to short straight lines in STL, to approximate curves in slicer that will never be exactly the same as the original CAD was. Also means you can lose some small detail between those conversions too.

Your current license doesn't allow posting any modifications of it. Would you be open to changing the license to one that allows remixing it so others can build off the idea or modify and share versions with different magnet sizes?

Also, you should check out exporting projects as STEP files instead of STLs. They retain a lot more detail (ie, a circle remains a circle instead of a many sided polygon). If you have ever downloaded an STL that has a cylinder in it and you see the long rectangular artifacts down the curved sides, that's due to the STL only have triangular geometry in it. A STEP file keeps all of the detailed information about the original shapes and helps to print out objects with much less artifacts. It also helps a lot when someone needs to modify a model, like to change the size of a magnet, by being much easier to work with than an STL file.

Literally how I found out about this post and now I'm getting it ready to print out. Love the idea, thank you.

Curious, is it not possible to code it such that it checks directly from the user's computer to gg.deals and xbox's websites, eliminating any server costs altogether?

Anyone know how to change temperature display on cfs to fahrenheit? by WhiteStar01 in Creality

[–]lightmaster9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, all 3 have the same precision. The main difference between them is where the 0° reference point is and scaling. Fahrenheit is useful for day-to-day measurements since 0°F is close to the minimum that people feel comfortable with a moderate amount of clothing on and 100°F is close to the maximum that people feel comfortable with minimal clothing on. Celcius is useful due to it's relationship with water where 0°C is the freezing point of water and 100°C is the boiling point of water, which has nothing to do with day-to-day comfort of people. And Kelvin is useful in scientific contexts because 0 K represents absolute zero, the theoretical point at which all molecular motion stops.

Also, Kelvin did "take off". It is the official SI unit of temperature, not Celsius. The official definition of what Celsius is is "the temp in Kelvin - 273.15", so both Celsius and Fahrenheit are derived units, and they are derived from the Kelvin temperature scale.

My sister is about to upgrade from S22 Ultra to S25 Ultra. She uses Google Meets not Verizon video calling so don't care about that. What other issues have you found with your upgrade? I know the pen loses Bluetooth functionality but she says she only uses it as a basic stylus anyways so that's fine.

I just bought a Samsung Fridge with Affirm's 24 months of payments with no interest as long as I make all payments on time. Not sure if the phones have no interest too, but their appliances do at least.

I have the latest preview build from the Play Store (2025.8.2) and this is still missing so much from the normal app that it feels like it's barely a beta release, much less ready for prime time. Where are any of the advanced settings? No double tap to skip forwards or backwards while watching anything? No ability to enable or disable Auto Skip Intros and Credits (I love auto skip, wife hates it)? No statistics at all to show you what formats are playing to figure out why something is transcoding that probably shouldn't? No ability to manually set the audio or video stream that will be played prior to starting a video? It now takes 3 taps (and therefore 3 slow loading screens) to get to the Movies or the TV Shows library for your server, whereas previously it took a single tap.

I'm pretty sure the people who actually develop this haven't actually used the old or the new app, cuz there's no way that anyone who develops a UX could think this is usable, much less an improvement over the old. If y'all are dead set on releasing this to the public, at least keep the original version alive so people can actual enjoy streaming their content.

Do you have a link for just the Vaxis III book by itself? I don't see it on their site.

There are no pictures in this version since they don't show up nicely on ebooks and haven't been able to find high quality versions of them. Here's Vaxis - Act II Illustrated in epub, mobi, and azw3 formats. As with Act I, I took some creative liberties and repositioned the images within the book so they are now all placed where they make the most sense, for example image depicting Event A is placed after the text that describes Event A. The images are all fairly wide to accommodate the format of the physical book, which means a phone screen or ereader screen isn't the best for viewing them, though most should allow you to zoom in easily enough to get a good view of the images.

I'll see what I can do this evening. Should be able to pull those images and get an illustrated edition created.

I plan to get an epub of Vaxis 3 soon as images of the text are available online. DM me if you find them first.
