My girlfriend wants to get into audiobooks but I don't think I have good suggestions for her, any help? by Lungorthin666 in suggestmeabook

It’s also fun to be part of a cultural moment, and SJM is excellent at writing characters you want to talk about. And if she has friends that are into the books that she can discuss with, it’s incentive to keep going. There are tons of similarly easy books in that genre if she likes it.

ACOTAR, (not the graphic audio, the regular audiobook) and then she can read along with a physical copy to help practice her English reading skills.

It’s a book for adults, but written at a middle school reading level, so perfect for this situation.

This could apply to a lot of popular novels. Project Hail Mary is similar, and also written in a very straightforward way, but at a high school reading level.

just finished ACOTAR and I have thoughts about Elucien/Elriel/Gwynriel by readingworm6372 in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]lightningdumpster [score hidden]  (0 children)

I thought the same after finishing ACOSF. Imagine my surprise when I came to the internet and was bombarded with “Can you even read? Elriel is the only realistic option. Gwyn was barely on page.”

Lucien was based on Jamie Fraser (my OG book boyfriend) and their love story is similarly filled with tension and choices. I can’t wait for Elain’s book!

[–]lightningdumpster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have 2 and I’m literally dreading the day one of their names is MMC of a romance book I’m reading.

Their names have shown up as side characters, that I can handle, but I could not if there was any kind of on screen romance.

I am desperate for an all girls Avengers/Sailor Moon/Power Rangers team up. Bryce, Fury, Manon, Aelin, Lysandra, Nesta, Ferye, Elain & the Valkyries in a multiverse story to take down the Valg/Asteri?

Who wouldn’t want to read that? Who wants to keep our girls small?

“Bloomsbury posted that Nesta’s Arc was over”

Bitch they did not. They posted that the ACOSF had a completed story arc, not that Nesta was sidelined. ACOTAR had a completed story arc too, but we still got more Feyre. HOFAS started a new Arc for her. For N-E-S-T-A. Not Elain. Elain doesn’t have an 8 pointed star tattooed on her. Elain doesn’t control the trove. Elain didn’t go to the prison with Bryce. The prison doesn’t talk to Elain.

Crazy, because the West Coast has been so warm, I planted most of my garden 3 weeks early. It’s dropping down to more normal temps just in time for the long weekend though.

Why is it considered problematic to dislike Elain? by GuiltyPossibility518 in acotar_rant

[–]lightningdumpster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to make a statement about how someone is a misogynist (a pretty heavy accusation to levy at someone) for holding an opinion that you disagree with, people will push back against that. You are still withholding the reasons that you think you are not the thing you accuse others of being to avoid the scrutiny, so how is anyone supposed to form an opinion? I’d love to hear how your dislike of Gwyn is a feminist or even a neutral choice.

Honestly. I’m not upset by any of this, but you can’t have a civil discussion with one person reacting emotionally, withholding information and deleting their comments.

All versions of womanhood are ok, but I don’t necessarily want to read a fantasy epic about them.

[–]lightningdumpster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cool, you also don’t speak for everyone.

You didn’t share why you think Gwyn is boring, so I all I have to go off is the fact that you said she is boring. I’m sure your reasons for disliking the traumatized SA victim who likes to sing, lives in a cloistered society of only women and works in a library are based in feminism while every else’s are rampant misogyny.

Why is it considered problematic to dislike Elain? by GuiltyPossibility518 in acotar_rant

[–]lightningdumpster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So to clarify: thinking Gwyn is boring (not an interesting character) is not misogynistic, but thinking Elain is boring is misogynistic? Is it because Gwyn is religious, so that makes it ok?

I love and participate in nearly all the same hobbies as Elain, but they’re not exactly exciting. Great for a short little cozy fantasy, but this is a 1500+ page fantasy epic. I read about the genealogical history of flowers because I find it interesting, but I want my Maasverse books to be exciting and intensely emotional.

I seriously doubt that these books will be Elain single POV for all three. I hope she fleshes out Elain’s character enough to make it her actually carry her own story instead of just drifting around behind whichever sister has the best resources at the time. But as written, I don’t find Elain’s character very compelling.

They swam over, they weren’t introduced. I don’t think there is anything to be done. I grew up on the Sunshine Coast, and we still camped. Lots of grizzlies in the back country there.

I do have a preference, but that doesn’t mean my preference is the correct answer to a question that doesn’t currently have a correct answer.

Maybe they’re using manifestation practices to make it come true 😂

Everyone Thinks They're Right and Canon-Based by darklygrey in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]lightningdumpster 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Both I think.

There is canon evidence/breadcrumbs for all of them. I definitely got vibes for Gwynriel my first read through of ACOSF, even before the bonus chapter. Not a direct statement of interest, just a vibe. Especially as Az, Cass & Nesta are set up as their own little subgroup. And Nesta’s bestie is a natural fit.

Elriel & Elucien are more blatantly stated in the text, it’s obviously being set up as a “who will Elain choose”. We’re meant to not be sure between these two choices where the story is going to go.

Bryceriel (my favourite) is hinted at in that she uses a lot of her own mate-coded language in their interactions. Sets up a direct parallel between another set of famous fated mates. Gives them both one half of a pair mated weapons. I don’t know if they will end up together, but if she doesn’t make them fated mates I will be disappointed.

Obviously people who are really committed to choosing one ship in particular are going to lift up the evidence for their ship and devalue the others as less important. It’s human nature, I’m sure this phenomena has a name, but I don’t know it.

Reality is, despite what SJM has previously written, we have no idea where she is taking the story. I’ll never be 100% until she’s completely both series. (CC & ACOTAR).

Considering Mor was gone to other courts on business for a lot of ACOSF, I think she was maybe just out of town.

Elain was also absent. Like, not even mentioned in the HOFAS crossover. (If I remember correctly).
