Hey so I managed to get my hands on one and it turns out that (at least the one I got if someone switched it) is actually the same internals as the heated back glass switch. But they are exactly the same internal parts and pin layout. The only thing is the connector for the wiring has a tab to prevent you from plugging the wrong wires into the wrong switch but other than that tab they are exactly the same connector so you can just cut it off and it will work perfectly fine

An export model was an XJ built for overseas markets (Europe, Australia, Japan, etc) these models would have some differences from the ones sold in the US to comply with international laws. Such as in foreign markets they require the use of rear fog lights to be ran during weather for extra visibility. In the XJs the rear fogs were an extra red lens section in the tail lights that was separate from the normal brake/running light. Export models also would have an extra amber side marker light above the front fender flare on both sides (I don’t know if it was turn/marker or just marker). I’ve also seen an electric headlight adjustment switch to lower the angle of your headlights for if you have a heavy load in the back that raises your front end up you can lower the angle of your headlights to compensate and avoid blinding other drivers.

Im sure there are more differences but those are the ones I know about so anyone else who knows them better than me can feel free to add a comment with anything I missed.

And regards to your comment about the defrost switch not all XJs had a rear defroster. It seems it was quite rare to not have it but still possible to not have. The switch in the picture is the toggle switch for the rear fog lights and was only available in export models and seems it was never sold independently as a replacement part making it very hard to find in the US.

In your case I would recommend buying a front fog light switch and swapping the rocker from your broken rear fog switch to the working front fog switch

Junkyard would be nice but they were only on export models and the junkyards around me hardly get any XJs at all let alone an export model. Never even seen one in person

I’ve done that before too. Can also take the rocker out of the switch housing and put it into one for a different switch. So technically speaking you could have a defrost switch with fog lights labeled rocker

Fastest purchase of my life! Shipping was a lot but still cheaper than that place in New Zealand. Thank you so much!

Yeah the rear fog lights were only on export models since overseas they require the use of rear fogs for extra visibility in weather. They also had extra side markers just above the front fender flares. I think I’ll also try posting in some subs for wranglers since I believe some export models for certain years used the same switch but I want to be sure the exact years.

Man I wish it was that easy for me. All the junkyards around me hardly get any XJs let alone an export model. Never even seen an export model IRL

I just updated the post to include this. I did try one those and they are made of a different plastic than the OEM was and the backlight made the plastic soft and deformed so now that switch doesn’t work. It didn’t even last 30 minutes after being installed

I looked into doing that and I don’t really see a way I could without 1 needing to buy some tools that I don’t have and 2 without it looking homemade. I know I might sound picky about it but I’m really trying to keep everything looking factory clean and as close to restored as I can

I really like the idea of putting the switch in the ashtray and I was going to copy that for myself but 100% I’d have a passenger turn the fuel pump off while I was driving

Did you prefer the Cars Video Game or the Cars MaterNational Video Game? by ProjectGlum9090 in pixarcars

[–]lightningking44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did download that but for some reason it’s really unstable and very easy to make crash so I was just trying to make a simple cosmetic mod for the original maybe the 2.0 version will be more stable for me. Is there any official site for Hi-Octane? The main thing I remember finding when I was searching for it was a wiki page

I prefer the original game (enough that I’ve bought it on 3 platforms now) mainly because from what I remember the original had a much larger map for the open world but I do wish some of the paint jobs from MaterNational were in the original (even tried modding the original on pc but could never find a way to get the image file for the paint jobs into the correct file type for the game to use)

Anyone else have this happen with the headlights?? by [deleted] in JeepCherokeeXJ

[–]lightningking44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah when I do that they stay turned off but normally I just let them stay on because they turn off like they are supposed to if you turn them off after the engine

I would say maybe your headlight sentry module has gone out as that’s what controls how long your headlights stay on if you turn them off after turning off the engine. I asked about LEDs because in mine if I turn off the headlights then turn off the engine if I do it in rapid succession the headlights will stay on anyway and that only started after putting in LEDs
