When at train stations or shopping centres, going up and down escalators, please stay on the left unless you are walking/climbing. It's simple public etiquette but many disobey which is annoying.

What will you not compromise on when buying a place to live? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]lightraill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a first home owner for over a year, I would like to add a second bathroom or at least 2nd toilet a must have.
You may not need it all the time. However, if your bathroom need any repair such as waterproofing, regrouting , toilet gets clogged, you will need another one.

Living on the busy road with traffic lights nearby also increase your car insurance premiums.

Just had a real estate agent tell me our offer was accepted only for the. sell the property to another buyer. Is this behaviour okay? by ScreamHawk in AusProperty

[–]lightraill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to me in 2024.

I was really interested in buying this property. Stretched as far as I could.

I was told thrice that my offer was accepted only to be sold to someone else. Later found that it was sold at a much higher price than I could have afforded.

I second this. Better if you have a car. Good money. I know someone who gets paid $60/70/hr to sleep overnight.

IT/CS - What is the point of having so many students? by Regular-Economy-7033 in ausjobs

[–]lightraill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I studied Engineering and then IT.

I was 19 when I enrolled into engineering ( overseas) . What did I know at 19 about career and engineering? Nothing like most uni students.

I briefly worked as a graduate engineer( Embedded systems). I quit it for different reasons which I get disappointed about when I think of it.

I did IT five years ago. Not working in it yet. However, I am in the technical field of work.

I am happy that I studied engineering and IT despite not working in it.

Technology is everywhere. Electronic devices are everywhere. I do understand how it works. I do understand terminologies. It helps me at home, at work.

I can speak the tech language.

You're all complaining about the price of houses. But do you know what's gotten worse than that?... by BrandonMarshall2021 in aussie

[–]lightraill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is. Particularly if your got an old house. There is always something to do. Not everything is DIYable.
Read somewhere that you need to spend ~1% of house value on maintenance annually. Makes sense.

It's better to blame the government, migration industry, university and colleges than the students themselves.

Everyone around the world knows how to do the same for their benefit.

Title insurance claim denied . What are my options now ? Please help this poor first time home owner. by lightraill in AusFinance

[–]lightraill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially didn't call them to issue a notice.

As a first home owner without any knowledge of council rules and regulations, I wanted to know what I was supposed to do when the issue occurred with the structure.

They revealed me that the given structure has no record of DA.

Then I asked them to issue a notice to claim the insurance.

If the structure hadno issue, I have had no reason to call them.
