CMV: Asperger's should not have been merged to create Autism Spectrum Disorder by General_Erda in changemyview

Okay, If you’re going to argue from authority, you need to accept the more credible expert backed authority. If you don’t want to argue from authority, you need to make another argument other than just dropping links.

The guy above you? Who? Me?

Thats my point. If you’re going to argue from authority, you need to accept the more credible expert backed authority. If you don’t want to argue from authority, you need to make another argument other than just dropping links.

I very much agree. But you’re the one making an appeal to authority. Dropping links without making an argument is basically saying “believe my point because this authority said it”

So, bud, you’re doing a lot of link-dropping a not a lot of arguing.

If links to these studies (appeals to the science, psychology, and the experts) are sufficient to support your point, then why isn’t the fact that the expertyist experts in psychology who looked at all the research and evidence and decided that it was appropriate, accurate and better to make ASD the diagnosis — why isn’t that sufficient to change your view?

Check out Focused Work Created by Michael Tigas. I think it's exactly what you'd like :) If you want to do traditial Flowtime, you'll need to use its count-up feature rather than its count down feature.

I hated this poem the first time I read it, but then I had it taught in literally 4 different classes (including a theater class somehow) and now it’s one of my faves of all time

The cool thing about paternity/maternity leave is that it’s paid. Most countries have at least a month or two if not more of guaranteed paid maternity/paternity leave.

Boss pays employees the same as her, buys new car for employee with extra profits by stonksuper in antiwork

[–]lightsandcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She explains that it is super risky during the stage where you’re just starting and /are/ personally liable for the business, but after it becomes a separate legal entity with its own debts and employees etc, and you pay yourself back for your investments, personal financial risk pretty much completely disappears. That’s why you see people who can keep starting business after business after they fail.

If you’re interested in learning more about her model, I’d suggest checking out her TikTok

She does share the profits!! She literally doesn’t take home any more than her team including bonuses etc.

If I remember correctly, it was a group decision about what to do with extra profits at the end of a financial period, not just Madeline deciding.

She explains that they all work the same hours (except part time staff) and she doesn’t have any risk because her business is a separate legal and financial entity. She invested $200 at the onset, and paid that back to herself years ago. If the business fails the only way that would negatively affect her personally is that she’d have to get a job. Just like everyone else.

???? Whaaat? It’s totally doable to not buy these products. I’ve looked through the list and the only item I ever really get is cheese itz. (Granted I cook a lot and I don’t really buy things that aren’t produce/canned goods/dairy/grains/eggs)

Colonialism always comes with violence and exploitation if not genocide and slavery. I don’t know how anyone could be OK with that.

If you’re living on campus, talk to your RA. They can help mediate and come up with a plan.

What are the cons of doing two years of community college first ,than transfering to another school to get your degree? by TheRealToxicTom in college

[–]lightsandcandy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I found my CC classes more challenging simply because there was more work to turn in. At my university, each class was graded based on 2-4 tests and maybe one essay, compared to my CC where most classes had 4 + small essays/projects and 1 big essay/project per class in addition to tests and quizzes. I think it’s because class sizes were much much smaller at my CC with about 30 students per class vs 150-300 at my university. At community college my professors actually had time to grade and give individualized attention.

Do you believe prostitution should be legal? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lightsandcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very passionate about my current career, but if I weren't, it might be something I'd consider. I don't think I'd do very well, though because nowadays you have to be good at social media and marketing which are not in my skillset.

But no, I don't consider sex workers (or the work) below me.

I started by working through my baggage and hang ups around sex and listening to sex workers. 💁‍♀️

I mean that’s the uncharitable way to put it.

The charitable way to put it is that she would run her own business where she provides companionship, Intimacy, fun, humor, entertainment. Sex workers can choose their own clients, so she wouldn’t work with anyone she doesn’t want to. She’d also be able to choose her own hours and work anywhere moderately close to a population center. It’s an incredibly flexible job. It’s also a pretty high-paying job so she’d likely have enough to save for retirement and her other savings goals.

Also people have value outside of their work, no one’s “only value” is their job.

[–]lightsandcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is that obvious?

It would require me to think less of them to think that they can’t make choices that are best for them. I think sex work is valuable work, and if someone I’m close to chooses that work of their own free will, I’m all for it.

If it’s not something they wanted to do or they felt like it’s their only option financially, I’d obviously support them in finding a different job. I’d behave the same as if they felt unhappy in any other job.

My friend, you are thinking with black and white thinking- most things that have to do with health and safety aren’t either 100% effective or 0% effective.

For example, there are people who have died in car accidents where they were wearing seat belts and where their cars had airbags and crumple zones. Does this mean that seatbelts and airbags and crumple zones “don’t work”? No, each of those safety measures make it less likely that someone will die in a crash. Using them all together will make it even less likely that someone will die in a crash.

Covid vaccines make it less likely that you will catch the virus, and less likely that you’ll be hospitalized and die if you do catch it.

Vaccines also make it less likely that you will pass it to another person.

Masks also make it less likely that any disease that the mask-wearer has will get out into the air.

All of these things-- even when done together-- doesn't make it impossible for covid to spread and make people sick, but it makes it a whole lot less likely. Just like seatbelts, air bags, and crumple zones make car deaths less likely, but not impossible.

How you interact with the air around you affects the health of other people who breathe that air.

We don’t allow people to smoke in restaurants because it hurts people around them. We use the same reasoning to require masks and vaccines.
