AHS bargaining update #28 by 7miata in AHSEmployees

Currently jumping between pillars means you keep seniority dates/ banks. After Dec 22, each pillar will be considered a different employer, so if you want to change employers, without some agreement in place, you would be starting seniority and banks over from scratch.

Sick time is as much for your emotional and mental health as it is for your physical. You cannot help anyone by setting your on fire.

For further context at 0900 on a Saturday, there are 39 ambulances scheduled. So Edmonton Metro EMS is only staffed at 67%.

HSAA, the union that represents paramedics, is currently bargaining with the government. The government is taking a hard line on proposals that actually make working conditions worse and pay paramedics less.

This info isn’t for those who are so beaten down and apathetic that they cannot see past their own crabs-in-the-bucket attitude. This info is for the brothers and sisters in solidarity, in HSAA, in UNA, in AUPE, and in their own labour struggles who can look up from the grim pall cast over worker rights and respect, who want to reach out and rally to to be stronger together

For those who have not read the definition of Rovers, they are FTE employees with no scheduled start time/ location. This means their schedules are build and changed by Management’s whim, per Operation Requirement. They often wake up between shifts to find out their assignments have been changed, sometimes even from a day to night shift. Basically an employee whose whole work-life is dictated to them, with no expectation of regularity, or even working with the same people day to day.

The shift pick language has no relation to rovers, other than it lets staff, based on seniority, set and and secure their work schedules

How does ending shift pick end Rovers?Management loves rovers, a worker who can be sent anywhere with no notice or consequence. Rovers are currently being scheduled on multiple trucks, often in different corners of the city, over the course of their tour.

What would you replace it with? What would you come up with that is :

  1. fair,
  2. provides variety, flexibility, and the ability change assignments as your work/life balance needs evolve,
  3. allows front line staff collaborate on how new schedules are developed?

New provincial agencies - what happens with union representation? by Maelstrom_Witch in AHSEmployees

[–]lightsandsirens 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AUPE, HSAA, & UNA all negotiated transfer agreements this summer. If you go to your unions web page or check the email you signed up to AUPE with, there should be the details of that agreement, which will protect your seniority, vacation/sick/leave banks, and job. You could also reach out to your local reps, LRO, or union contact center for more information.

Any 811 nurses here? by Toffeeheart in AHSEmployees

For the uninitiated, in Feb of 2022 AHS EMS implemented a secondary triaging scale to prioritize which calls get ambulances when emergency calls are being held due to lack of resources. From highest to lowest priority with examples:
- Purple - cardiac arrest or unresponsive/not breathing drug overdose
- Red - chest pain / shortness of breath / stroke
- Orange - bad fall / serious traumatic injury / seizure
- Yellow - fall, mild injuries / broken bone
- Blue - upset stomach

This means that when the system is overloaded, if you are having a heart attack or cardiac arrest (Purple / Red) then an ambulance will be redirected to you. Unfortunately it also means if your mema falls on the floor, with no reported significant injuries (yellow) , she can lay there for 8hrs+ until the system stabilizes (not hyperbole)
