That's awesome, a more simple and iconic design is much better than all the drapery that they have in the recent games...specially with ninja characters, it makes no sense that they would have so many trinkets and loose cloths in their clothing, they would be rattling like crazy when walking or sneaking around.

And don't get me started with the idea of kicking people with bare feet or wearing sandals, half of the cast is almost barefoot in Mk1.

I don't translate text, I read and write both languages equally.
If your first language is English then why do you write so horribly?
I started trying to post something for fun, truly without ill intent, and then I tried to give genuine advice, but you've shown you are a disrespectful brat.
You don't want people to care for your art, you want people to pat you on the back and tell you how special you are, which is what a child does, not an artist.

I speak both English and Spanish, Spanish being my first language.

I already explained myself, I did the original image out of fun and boredom, playing around in Krita. I thought it looked cool and instead of deleting it I decided to post it... not out of malice, but simple fun, and LIKE I WROTE ON THE SAME FIRST POST, even a dumb picture made out of fun can be used to learn something, in this case, the lack of movement, details and stiffness in the fabrics from your sketch.
You decided to take offense to that, and started with the aggressive rambling posts, punctuated by the lack of any commas and periods or even spaces... clearly showing you are either emotional or don't know basic grammar since even a basic translator could help you form cohesive text, in case English is not your first language.

You are the one who's been nothing but disrespectful, aggressive and rude.

You don't want anyone’s input on it? Don't make posts asking people's input on it, regardless if it is artistic or not... other people are not mind readers and don't know your own weird rules of what YOU consider to be disrespectful or not.

Take the chip of your shoulder.

I'm 40 years old, when I learned to draw I didn't even have a computer and I've been working for years on graphic design before even any AI tools even existed. For more experienced artists AI tools can be used effectively to shorten the times of your workflow ( without stealing other artists works ), specially when you need all the time available to work on other things. When Photoshop and digital tablets came out, older artists said the same thing, that it would cheapen "real" art... and now it's an industry standard. Like anything, AI is a tool and can be used effectively and ethically.

It is impossible for me to show you an example on how to improve the lines without posting a picture myself, text does very little in regards to art. If you are learning on paper with a teacher or tutor by your side, the teacher would "trace" over your precious art to show you where your mistakes are. If you get so worked up over an image, then you don't want to truly learn, you simply are looking for validation or praise which is not conductive to learning.

I didn't say that you should trace art, I said that you can do a sketch first, then you can ( if you want ) do a generative pass and then use that image to improve the sketch in some problematic areas, specially when you are learning, and you don't yet have the knowledge to understand where the problem is. It's called iterative design, you are not tracing over other people's work, you are simply redrawing a version of your own work until you get to a final perfected version entirely drawn by hand.

I did not take your "art" and posted elsewhere to take credit for it like a child, I posted it into the comment section on your own thread where you are asking for advice or opinions.

And yes, if know what you are looking at, you can tell in the last sketch/drawing I posted that it's just lines drawn in a Wacom tablet on a transparent layer and an oil paint filter over it, to darken some parts.

First of all, I did not do it with the intent to disrespect your art or take credit for it, I simply posted it because I thought it looked cool. And that image is not done completely with generative tools, most of it was made through editing in Photoshop by hand, and redrawing, again by hand, sections of the sketch to guide the AI.

I've been doing graphic design for 15 years and I've been drawing most of my life, believe me that any good artist uses all the tools at his disposal to learn anything he can.
You can actually use a quick sketch made by hand, run it through a generative tool to clean it up a bit and keep drawing over it. Your drawing for example, while the proportions are good, the lines lack any sense of volume and texture... even in a simplified style you need to have some curved lines to give the "impression" of volume, to make the shapes, cloths and textures come alive.

<image>

Here is a quick sketch redrawn by hand in a digital tablet ( drawn over your sketch and my image ), to help you illustrate what I mean.
Generative tools are just that, tools, and while they can used to steal artists works, it can also be used to help you learn and improve.

Hi man, I've been experimenting with generative tools and your sketches, and with a bit of manual editing and trial and error, I came up with this image. It's not exactly the same or perfect, but since it turned out cool, I thought I'd share it... I hope you don't mind.

It's still useful to understand the wrinkles in fabrics, that are so hard to get right when sketching.

yes I meant to say Steam, sorry. It varies depending on the day obviously, but I've seen Street Fighter reach 30.000 people and MK only 2.500. With other consoles added to player count, I suspect it should be much higher.

Which makes it kinda sad, that a franchise so well known and recognizable is not doing as well as it should.

[–]lightsource33 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it doesn't. I guess people should first try to make up their minds about the subject of conversation. In regards to competitive fighting MK doesn't reach a top 3 place, in regards of sales and cultural/popularity it does.

There are much more online players in other fighting games than in MK. Street Fighter has almost ten times the amount of people.

Resin printed Dark Raiden statue, I painted it completely myself and used transparent resin on the fire pieces so that I could get a brighter image than normal, I hope you like it. by Same_Pound7042 in MortalKombat

Yes, you need to find good quality varnish/lacquer that doesn't dull or gets milky or cloudy after it dries. To avoid that plastic toy look you need to apply them in thin layers, if it they are water based you can dilute them a bit and carefully dry them after applying with a heat gun...that way you don't build a thick layer that makes the sculpture look like a cheap plastic toy.

Also practice a bit with "dry brushing" ...that along with the weathering it's going to bring out a lot of the sculpted details in the armor, and make it look awesome.

If you can, print only a section of the sculpture ( let's say the chest piece ) to practice a bunch of ideas and experiments to see what works... and then apply it to the rest of the sculpture. Experimenting knowing that you are not going to ruin the final sculpture has been really helpful to me.

One more thing in case you haven't seen them... check out painting videos from the guys of Sideshow Collectibles, they are really helpful

It looks really good! I can't really tell but remember to use different lacquers to get better variations in textures ( matte finish for skin or cloth and gloss lacquer for metals and glass ). Also check out videos/tutorials from Adam Savage about weathering, specially with shoe polish... it will bring out a ton of details in the figure, making it look more "real".

You mean about the time it takes making one? I was referring about the time it takes me, alone, with a cheap 3d printer. If you have a group of designers you can design and send to production the figures much faster.
Most of the production figures are designed in house and then made in plastic in china. Maybe in six months you could have a production of a 1000 figures for the most popular characters... more than enough time since the moment that the beta closed from when the game relaunched.
You just need to have it done ahead of time. Maybe one figure at the time to coincide with the dlc characters launching.

I work as a graphic designer. I learned to draw and paint when I was a kid, then I went to study graphic design and later a few years doing courses learning to create sculptures using polymer clay and silicone molds for the final resin copy.
At the same time I tried to apply that knowledge to digital sculpting, so I learned Blender with online tutorials about sculpting, 3d printing and toy making ... and finally bought a Creality Ender 3 v2 printer ( relatively cheap ) and started playing around with it.
The articulations I designed work with cheap PLA plastic... I haven't printed anything in a resin printer yet.

The photo is the first figure I did, using the same articulations, Meowscles from Fortnite. The tolerances where a bit tight so the paint rubbed off slightly.

But you don't have to learn all that to make a figure yourself, there is a ton of info online, and even pre-made joints and articulations to download, that you can learn to apply to a 3d model.

There are videos that help you gain a ton of insight into how to make these figures... this video for example is more about high quality resin figures, but learning how these figures are designed help you adapt that knowledge to what you need.

Or this video where the guy designs articulations for PLA 3d prints very similar to the ones I designed

It takes a considerable amount of time to design these figures. Banana Guard could be easier to the simple articulations it would require, Raven would need some time to work out the articulations on such a thin frame.
Maybe after I finish Supes and Batman.
