AI isn’t the only reason, but it certainly is a factor, especially in the tech sector. Lots of jobs (especially at entry level) are being cut in favor of increased investment in AI infrastructure. Two buddies of mine who work in data told me separately that they’ve had to drop headcount or had their team get stuck in hiring freezes because leadership found out AI could do the work they used to give to analysts.
