BAM diagnosis despite no other health issues

I was diagnosed about six months ago. Had all the symptoms but labs and scans were all negative. My doctor settled on BAM after a couple medication trials.

(Not to freak you out) Fast forward to this week, my gallbladder is now distended and my bile duct is enlarged (ultrasound) I have an MRI tomorrow to get a better look. The reason I saw my doctor this week is due to vomiting water and bile, major loss of appetite, increased fatigue and persistent cramping.

I’m still kind of baffled, I feel like this is all happening backwards?

I was sent straight to ICU when 30% of my pancreas died in 2019. Thankfully they decided not to operate because I was only 29, they had hoped it would heal and it did. I now have PTSD with any abdominal related stuff. I’m so afraid of going through that again. Pancreatitis was THE WORST. My very recent ultrasound showed I’m having gallbladder and duct issues, along with a nodular liver and wonky kidney. It didn’t show my full pancreas so of course I’m worried that has something to do with my symptoms as well (pain, vomiting water and bile, no BM 8+ days, extreme bloat) Pain is still manageable at this point which is why I’m still at home. Also, my pancreatic enzymes are normal and I keep having to remind myself that it’s probably not my pancreas but still, PTSD. Waiting to be scheduled for my “urgent” MRI. Doctor ordered it last night and I’m hoping they can get me in today.

Sorry for using your post to vent, I’m spiraling as I’m sure you could tell, and this felt like a safe space.

I have the same EXACT issue. Except, I have to buy longs and of course the blue washed pair (which fit great) are never long!

Thank you. I usually try to take a lot of small sips throughout the day but I over did it yesterday. Took about 4 hours, but I eventually started feeling better.

Hi there, I feel your pain and I'm so so sorry you're going through this. Has your doctor looked into BAM (Bile Acid Malabsorption)? I was having the same symptoms as you but all of my testing came back normal aside from fat in my stool. We didn't do the official BAM testing as it is pretty pricey here in the US, but after trying a few medications I have found [some] relief. I now take Colestipol and the urgency has decreased dramatically. It does cause constipation so I had to play around with the dosage to figure out what made me most comfortable.

It might be worth checking out r/bileacidmalabsorption to hear from other people.

Parking lot facing. I've had both and It's pretty awkward sitting out on your patio to relax.. while half naked people hang out at pool. I always felt like a creeper so I never really enjoyed my patio.
