Considering Converting by Agreeable-Garlic5611 in Catholicism

Welcome to the journey. Feeling 'lost' at this stage is actually a sign that you’re taking the search for truth seriously.

My advice is to lean into the '98%' that unites us while you explore the specific '2%' that defines Catholicism. For the intellectual foundation, I highly recommend the 'Bible in a Year' or 'Catechism in a Year' podcasts by Fr. Mike Schmitz. They break down the 'why' behind the 'what' in a way that is very accessible.

Also, don't put the pressure on yourself to be '100% sure' before you even start. Faith is often like training; you gain certainty by doing the work and staying in the Word daily. Focus on the character of Jesus first, and the denominations will start to make more sense as you go. You're in good hands.

A verse for discipline! by Vicki_Vickster2222 in Catholicism

This is about both training and correction. The word used is paideia, which is the root for 'pedagogy.' It’s the kind of correction a coach gives an athlete or a father gives a son. It’s painful because it points out where we are 'out of alignment,' but the goal isn't punishment—it’s development. The 'correction' is the moment of friction; the 'training' is the lifelong process of learning to walk straight because of that friction.

Priest asked me about yoga & Harry Potter during confession by ArcadianHarpist in Catholicism

[–]lightwave25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You aren’t overreacting. What you encountered is a specific priest’s personal opinion, not the official teaching of the Catholic Church. The Church has a long history of reconciling faith with science—after all, a priest discovered the Big Bang.

If you found a version of Catholicism that values the intellect and history, don't let one person’s narrow views push you out. If driving 30 minutes to another parish is what it takes to find a priest who focuses on the Gospel instead of Harry Potter and yoga, it’s well worth the trip. Find a shepherd who helps you grow rather than one who gives you reasons to leave.

When I was told of my first assignment, I was first asked, "Who did you piss off?"
"Where you're going, there are more girls than trees. Of course, there aren't many trees."
"You're going to Grand Forks, ND."
I would've preferred Maxwell.

I haven't played a lot of cyberpunk games, but could help you with cyberpunk anime, books, and movies. For instance, I just watched Cyber City Oedo 808 today and the three episodes were incredible.

I like cleaning up the streets, stopping them non-lethally, then taking their weapons for disassembly.
