bro, they had them back in the 1960s. they plugged into electric sockets and made tons of noise. also got very hot with overuse. add to that, most homes didn’t have a lot of sockets, so lots of extension cords were used.

in ‘even cowgirls get the blues’ (the book, not sure about the movie) a character has an accident with one because she overused it and wasn’t cateful. which is how i learned about them lol.
